I've been speaking to Red on PM about my truck dying yesterday . He thinks that my fuel pump has failed . When I was getting help from S and P about 6 months ago and needed to change the fuel pump , they suggested , if my memory serves me correctly , and EP241 . I remember seeing someone post on this forum later that they'd found this pump to be inadequate because it would have to work too hard and to use another one . Could someone tell me which pump that was or recommend another one ? I know Walpro makes a heavier duty pump but may be kind of pricey . THanks

I bought my Walbro 255LPH pump on Ebay for $95 new. FWIW
My previous truck ran a 93 Corvette LT1 fuel pump from AC/autoZone.

Yeah, S&P also told me to use the EP241. I guess thats what feeds the 5.3 trucks from the factory (so they said). So I bought it and my truck ran fine the 2 months that I drove it. I bought a walbro on ebay too for about $100 bucks though. Im planning on installing when I get back. Better overfeed it than starve it.

I believe my '94 got a Walbro GSS340. It's the high output version. It fit right in with no modifications. It's the slightly larger diameter pump.

Well , I went down and bought a fuel pressure gauge which solved the problem . It's barely putting out 15 pounds. Does anyone think that this is why my power has been dropping ? I was thinking that , possibly , I was just getting used to the output of the engine . Do fuel pumps generally fail gradually until the engine just can't perform or do they just fail all at once? I'm wondering if the right pump will show an immediate improvement in performance . Thanks again to Red for the timely and correct diagnosis.

Dude the LS1 needs like 58 PSI or so to run at its premium. I dont know that much about how fuel pumps fail. But I know you aint getting the right PSI up there. Good luck!
-
Yeah, that's what I was telling him. Didn't want to say it was 4 bar or 4 x 14.4 lbs, too confusing. FWIW, most injectors are rated at 3 bar or 43.2 lbs of pressure.
I bought the wrong pump for my grand am, 1 bar/14.4 lb and the thing would run but it would fall on it's face during hard acceleration. I put the right pump on it and it runs like a striped arsed ape now.

thats strange..usually when a fuel pump fails..it fails all at once...your reghulator might be bad...
-
what's the best fuel gauge out there? I'd like to get one that'll work with the schrader valve on the fuel rail on my LQ4.
-
Autometer electric gauge.

I run an EP-381 stock vortec pump with no problems and good fuel pressure. I think the EP-241 is a smaller pump. You can't go wrong with a Walbro though.

ep241 is for tuned port/lt1 conversions..
dead head pressure is 62-65psi
operating pressure is 37-46psi
yeah thats the wrong pump...
