Crazy new motor

This motor is from mercury racing for marine applications. The biggest problem with marine applications is that there can be an extremely high load at WOT for extended periods of time. This motor is QOHC with 4 valves per cylinder. 9.0L and twin turbo. The turbos have water cooled turbine housings. It doesnt run a whole lot of boost but also has a 1 year complete warranty. It makes 1350 HP and similar TQ and spins to 6500. It was built from the ground up for this specif application.

There are many boats out there with 2 of these in it. One of them ( a 35' DCB M35) was up my way last month. At the shoot out in havasu it went somewhere around 180

There is a Nortec (I think) that is a 52' super cat that has 4 of them. When you buy the motor you have the option to buy the matching out drive. Total package 200k each.

With these they do fly.

i think for 120K i could have a nice boat and 3 badass ls motors that made more then 1350 hp combined.

LS motors burn oil when ran over 4k rpms for extended periods of time which isn't ideal for boats.

Them mercs been in the works for years. Gm/merc designed all the 4 valve stuff going on with it. There is a 28 eliminator with 2 cam only 5.3's in it that runs about 110. :D

3500 to 4000 is typical cruse rpm in a performance boat. And they could be sitting there for a few hours if heading off shore. And to top that off that is usually at 50-65% throttle position. So there is a decent load all the time. There are also a few boats running the LSA motors.

I'd put that thing in my Larson, lol. Pretty sick indeed but yeah, $120k seems quite steep considering some of the latest performance boats out there.

Exactly which is why I'm saying LS motors aren't great for boating since they burn oil at those kind of sustained loads.

It can be done right. The new ilmor MV8 is LS based and so are some of the new mercury motors going in the roll bar boats. (Mastercraft, malibu, ect.)

Roll bar boats? :lol: you mean wakeboard boats? Don't be jealous of people having more fun at the lake than you.

No jealousy. :lol: I'm not hating. I only use roll bar boats for wake surfing. There are literally 1000 miles of water ways in my back yard. So cruiseing around at 30-40 just doesn't cut it. We go from bar to bar and city to city covering a few hundred miles a day.

You would be surprised how much a STOCK engine can take as far as rpm's and time. We have ran stone stock big blocks at 4-200 for up to 35-45 mins, with no issues. The current set of Dart 555's we just built that our going into my boat will likely see WOT for up to 20 25 mins at time.. Anything that makes HP usually burns some oil. Check out the new Seven Marine out board 557. It uses a GM 6.2 with a tvs blower on it.

Those seven marine motors are awesome. I thought they were the LSA with a few small changes to deal with salt water. They are pretty heavy though compared to the merc 300's

I am now a one man squad...went to the dark side of consulting DD. They are always hiring, but they don't listen to the guys that have worked for them 5+ yrs, they only hiring jackwads. If we could pick our own MWDs, that would be a different story as I have a few buddies I would like to get on and trained up and then bring them over to DD. You have to move out of that liberal shithole over there and come over here though to get a chance I bet. You would like Texas man I promise.

No pre runner for me, my rzr xp is my sand ride plus I have some other things on the "to buy" list after putting a new contract on 40 acres. You can come down here and rent my current place from me or buy it lol. Has a pretty decent shop with it and 6 acres.

I like your place, that would work for me. Still doesn't fix the work part though.
