Gonna try and tackle doing a detail job on the truck this weekend. It has been sitting for 3 years and the paint is fading a bit with surface scratches. I've waxed it before and it brought it back to life. I really want to do the best job I can to get it to look the best it can get. I've heard of clay bar, wet sanding etc but never tried it. Any suggestions on what to try? Suggestions on the technique to go about it would be great too!

My boyfriend is a retired body man after 30 years, all he uses and swears by is WIZARD products. This cannot be applied by hand, It must be buffed with a buffer. I can tell you this, that stuff is like magic. He buffed out my 90 Lumina last summer, and it's all original paint and clear coat (torch red). It is a two step process, first step is Wizard rough cut, and second step is Wizard finish cut.
Adam's Polish does work good, but you'll be an old man by the time you get it done.....Too much manual labor for me, learn to use a buffer
You use a machine with Adam's. I can do a FULL complete paint correction in an afternoon. So, No, he won't be an old man.
i find that hard to believe unless youre talking about small amount of sheet metal. Just claybaring a vehicle properly takes along time. Crew cabs deffently arent an afternoon jobQuote:

Sure there's a lot of acreage to cover, but it's all flat easy going. And it depends on the condition of the vehicle I'm starting with. What kind of budget do you have for supplies?

I just done mine but it ain't old paint. I wet sanded with. 3000 grit paper then used 3m three stage compounds with highspeed buffer. Oh and it's a crew cab.....very time consuming
I have a 90 Lumina eurosport that has the original paint, which had a lot of roughness on the surface on the paint just from age. I clay barred the whole thing, and just that took me about 30 hours, but It was well worth the effort. The clay bar takes a lot of the impurities off the surface of the clear coat, good luck with your truck and take your time.
Just waxed my extended cab. Took 45 minutes. My arms have a little soreness. I need a buffer.
Thanks for the advice guys! I opted for the cheaper way out. Yesterday I got the Meguiars fine cut cleaner and did the truck with a coat of that, brought it WAY better than what it was. Then today I got the Meguiars ultimate liquid wax and put a coat of that on it, must say, wow! Looks like a new truck compared to what it used to look like, I'm very happy with the results. Don't have any before pics but here's a shitty cell phone pic. Looks 100 times better in person... Gonna get my good camera out this weekend and get some better shots. This truck stayed outside for 3 years undriven in Canadian climate, must say the paint looks pretty damn good considering that!
