I love how my truck sounds but you can check out the video at the following link and see there is quite a bit missing from the bottom end. its a 4.8 in a ecsb 4x4 so its heavy. Ive watched the video a lot and dont know if I should go if the 3.42 to 4.30 would be best, a 3200+ to replace the 2800 I have or smaller cam would be most economical and get the best gains http://youtu.be/NCIzOrbRNgc

Yea I wish I would of bought a bigger stall in the beginning but I wasnt really sure the starting RPM on the cam and didnt want to go to big. Now I got to do the work twice and sell the 2800 I got. I think it would be a good choice for someone with the 212/218
I don't mean this in a derogatory way at all, but I wish people would think about LS motors and their setup a little more before jumping into a cam/stall swap. Most people who get into this are scared of a stall the first time. What a lot of people who are new to this style don't realize is that you've got a 5000lb+ vehicle and a motor that likes to rev to 6200 stock. It isn't just any old small block anymore. You're a prime example of someone who got into it, then realized, crap, this stall isn't nearly big enough to support 5000lbs and a small cube motor that likes to rev. Like I said, I don't mean this in a bad way, regardless of how it sounds.Quote:

4000 rpm converter and my gear suggestion would depend on your tire height.
Start with the gears. It will make a huge difference. If you still want more add a bigger stall.
Ya it's cool and u have always posted to on my topics with good info. my main concern at the time was towing capability and not really knowing how this cam would perform in a 4.8. I went throught the comp cams book looking at specs of cams that were as close to what i got and comparing their notes for supporting mods. I dont remember which one it was but it was the closest i could find in duration and lsa and That comp had a starting range of 1800rpm which also lead me to my converter choice of 2800 thinkiing it would give me a 1000 rpm of wiggle room to get te engine into a better range. I tried not to go in that blind and actually spent quit a bit of time reading posts on this forum, and pt forum speaking with comp, rci, and I even tried emailing circle d but never got A reply. most of the forum guys with 4.8 were going the 212/218 low lift route which is a completely different animal then what I picked up and the "ls1 hot cam" has the same duration but less lift. It's a learning experience for sure and as mentioned before i love how the truck sounds with this cam. Iguess I'm just going to start saving for the gears first and start there

What's the cam specs?
The catalog doesn't mention cube size but I do know how lower displacement will raise the range of the cam. It's like My best guess on the stall was about 700 rpm off. Cam is 219/228 and .550/.550 114
That cam would need atleast a 3400 stall maybe 3800.
I have a 3200 stall with a 228r cam and its not enough stall. i need a 3600 stall just FYI.
get the gears, put the truck on the dyno then pick your stall from peak torque ;)
I plan on picking up some 4.30 s with a max tire diameter of 33. I will most likely pick up a truetrac when I do them since it's one last thing to worry about.
i would go 4.56 or 4.88 with that much tire.
With that much split on that cam it is going to love spray. Get your gears swapped then see how you feel, because those 3.42s are killing you especially down low. Then you can start rethinking other parts, but start with the weakest link. I think 4.30s will be a nice happy medium.
4.56's on 33's will be the same ratio to the ground as my 4.10's on 30's. I wouldn't do anything below 4.56 especially being a 4.8. And as far as converter I would go 3400+ and no bigger than a 258mm
I was really thinking 4.30s but i dont want to be let down when I get it done so I will move to the 4.56. I really have been thinking alot about F/I or nitrous and depending on how it runs after the gears and the stall I may supplement it for special occasions. The only thing I dont like about nitrous is it runs out....
