Anybody have any experience with a mail in order Blackbear tune for the 4.8?
Nelson > Blackbear IMO
Is that first hand experience? I'm not knocking Nelson but I also wouldn't throw out an unsupported opinion. There are plenty of people that are very happy with their BlackBear tunes. The fact that they use EFI Live which supports AutoCal is attractive for a lot of people.Quote:

No experience with Blackbear here, but yea I have tried Nelson mail tune years back with a magnacharger and it was perfect on the af ratio
I don't see Blackbear tuning anything more than bone stock trucks really... maybe a few cammed trucks here and there. Nothing over the top, which makes me think that there is a reason he doesn't have that kind of clientele.Quote:

Moral of the story is, everyone here seems to have a very strong opinion on who the best tuner is, and most will recommend Nelson due to the nature of the site. But, don't knock another tuner when you haven't personally had a tune from them. They are both very well known and well respected companies, OP, you can't go wrong with either one.
I just need a good tune for my daily driver. I don't want to do a re-learn or be without my truck for a week while the pcm is away getting tuned.
You can perform the security relearn at your own home by yourself. As far as the crank relearn, you need either a Tech 2 or tuning software to perform the relearn. You'll have to pay extra at the dealer to have the relearn done. A scan cable tune or AutoCal from Blackbear can do the relearn for you saving you the dealer trip/sending your PCM out. The truck will run without the crank relearn, it'll just run like crap and might throw misfire codes.
Here is the security relearn procedure:

Once this entire procedure has been completed (three times) your vehicle will start on the fourth attempt.
Note: Some vehicles perform the relearn in a different sequence. You may notice your security light, battery light and abs light will alternate. Once the security light is left out of the sequence that is considered one step. Repeat the procedure two more times and on the fourth time your vehicle will start.
A heads cam LQ9 is far from over the top. I guess when you hang out on GMFS and the like, you get used to the LACK of performance.

I think they are both good myself although I do have Nelson and I have no complaints.It woke the truck up, no doubt. I am absolutely happy with it, outside of the fact that they are very hard to reach, but I think that is just about all tuners.

Nelson all day everyday if you want no down time, theres plenty of guys not on this site that run a nelson tune. Anyways this site is mainly nelson, do some research and instead of asking who is better get on other forums and just read what peeps have said about em. Cus if you ask you get alot of opinions.

Nelson has my vote. My truck runs great plus everyone i have delt with has been great especially Erica. I have no experience with Blackbear
happy wiyh black bear, he got my truck to run great when a shity local tuner couldnt get it to stop stalling.
I had a BlackBear Tune on my 03 Silverado 5.3 with a CAI, LT's and ORY and ultra flow muffler, 05+ efans and rest of the truck was stock, for the in person tune i got for 250 i felt it was a good deal and it really woke up the truck and my MPG went up almost 3 if i kept my foot out of it.
Have never heard a bad thing about Nelson, which is why he is doing the tuning on this 96 S10 408/T56 swap truck im building. Nelson got the nod basically because he is local with a good rep.
You noticed +3mpg after just the tune or after tune, LT's, CAI, muffler & e-fans mod ?? +3mpg seems crazy yet interesting !!Quote:

I was fully a where of the last post date of this thread. But could really care less as I wanted to know if " FirstGensForever" really seen a +3mpg increase from a CAI, Headers, Muffler, E-Fans & Tune with his $1500 investment..... I didn't see anywhere in the rules of this forum stating anything about thread renewal guidelines or permission from Botlfed before doing so.....
