Should be fun :)
no one has any input? i need the info on the little things. i know i need a ecm flash, wiring harness, and a different oil pan. i was wondering what are some of the little parts im prob not thinking about.
Dirtydingo motor-mounts
Nelson tune
schnofield long tube headers
efans from a 96 ford windstar
I think grey coys and some nice street tires
smooth out the body and paint it black granite metallic.
i have headers already not sure what kind they came with the motor. my porterbuilt xmember came with motor mounts. i am seriously considering coys in gunmetal or boss 338s. the truck will be red with a white top similar to the way it is now.
i will def look into the efans tho.
i was wondering what little things im gonna need to make this work in this truck as far as gauges and stuff like that goes.
i know im gonna need a fuel pump and filter setup, what is a inexpensive setup?
stuff like that. im sure once i actually start the swap i will have more specific questions.
Not to be off topic but have you see the new Caddy paint called Black Diamond tri coat? I saw it at the auto show this year, BEAUTIFUL!!!!
The headers you got with your motor may or may not fit since they werent made to go into that truck body. I would do some measuring to make sure you dont need a different set. You will probably have to get your driveshaft modified to fit as well. Not sure if it will need to be shorter or longer that will depend some on your motor mounts. The Dirty Dingo mounts give you some adjustment both ways.
thanks guys. keep the ideas coming.
Lots of info HERE. Especially for 67-72's
if i take the fan and clutch off the motor do i have to change the pulley or can i leave the one that is on it now?
i unscrewed the clutch/fan off of the pulley already. i was just going to find a nut or something to screw in its place just to dress it up but if the pulley/water pump needs to be changed then i guess thats what i will do.
Nothing else needed. S and p makes a nice cover for the threads
just leave as is....no nut needed.
good luck with the project...should be fun!
cool thanks. you have a link or somehing for them?
anyone know if i can somehow hook up cruise control on this thing? i would like to have it but its not a necessity.
most likely need f-body oil pan to go with xmember your using
i'm pretty sure there's a write up some where on here about cruise control.
i have the cruise control off my truck & the one from the camaro if you want one.
i have the cruise that came with the motor. thanks for the link ray
Kelly what gauges do you plan to run if autometer I have all the info on what senders need to be used also I can help you out with fuel line set up if your using fuel cell I ran all stainless steel 3/8 fuel line with flex hose and -an style fittings I'm running the walbro 255 external pump .also there is a guy in baton rouge who did my computer flash for 85 bucks and will stand behind his work Nelson performance harness is the way to go get the extra three feet of trunk on the harness to mount computer and fuses and stuff with the harness inside the cab I am willing to help you wire it up if you need to I would get a painless harness are something similar to run everything else like I have and use the Nelson to tap into that
Also get new waterpump and thermostat if your not running heater are a/c get a loop and bypass the in and out on the waterpump
not to hijack the thread but would you mind sharing the info on autometer gauges, i hve a 66 chevy that i "may" use autometer or the stock gauges if possible. Also how do you like your walbro pump - would that be a reasonable choice for a stock lm7? Sorry I am still learning..
I got adapters from speed and performance for oil pressure and temp gauges and as far as fuel gauge I'm running a jaz fuel cell I had the wrong sender and gauge combo I'm running a 0-90 ohm sender gauge combo now and for a tach I used the lead of the new harness for it I had to run a signal wire off the high side vss for my speedo to work it's still giving me problems but never calibrated it yet the walbro fuel pump does the job got it from summit and found the -an fittings from them as well for it along with inline -an style fuel filter I made my flex hoses from filter to pump and from hard line to fuel rail everything else is hardline and bent to fit around my cnotch and inside the frame my fuel cell did not have two ports for vent and return so I used the vent for return and drilled and tapped the filler neck for vent
