Better off building your own than buying someone else's problem...just my :twocents:
There are places that will build you brand new motors also...just depends on what you're willing to spend.
Ya lme does 402 ls2's for 4900 shipped im pretty sure!
HKE does 408 for a really fair price.
ERL does great motors for good prices
Mast Performance build great engines at....ehh, never mind !!!
^^ Look at the site & ive talked to them bout doin my ls2...
RHS 502cid Tall Deck sale price of 11,200.00 LS2 402cid sale price of 4,599.00 LSX 454cid sale price of 6,599.00 sale price
Laugh at urself now... Thats posted directly from site
I'm not talking about price...
cant be saying they do crap work too many ppl have good feedback about them...
LME also built the fastest LSX standing mile motor. has to say something if their motor holds together at over 2000hp
so they can build something that will hold up for a couple mile passes, good for them. I would never buy an engine from them, ive seen and heard to much about their work. The only reason they stay in business is because of all the out of town work they have and LMR. Not may people in Houston run their engines anymore. I do have one friend that has a 41x built by them and is satisfied. I know every shop has its horror story's but there's some things that just shouldn't happen that have. Theres lots of better engine builders in houston
Who cares really if locals use or dont them really? I was just throwing info out for him on prices... I live 5 mins from reher morrison does that mean I need to use them?
If they were a good engine builder then yeah why not? Why would you use someone half way across the country? So when your motor messes up you have to try and fix it over the phone instead if you but local you can just take it there and have it looked at. There's no reason not to buy local unless there isn't a good shop around
all engine builders make mistakes, its the ones that fix there mistakes that means the most !! and i yet to see anyone fix what they fugged up to make it right, well known shops can careless about there mistakes, reason being they have enough satisfied customers to overcome the lost :( sad as it may seem but it is what it is..
ok then. so what are some recommended shops to check with? a lot of people on ls1tech recommended LME but i am not very familiar with any motor shops as i have always built my own until lately when i got hooked on the lsx platform engines. i have yet to build one myself and will start with a stockish motor and don't want to take a chance with a few grand worth of parts on the line for a big cubic inch stroker.
I think I'd talk to Richard at West Coast Cylinder Heads. He builds engines on the side and does good work from what I hear. Most of the mass produced hot rod engines have issues in one form or another. I had three built by HKE in Houston and all were junk. Others have had good luck with him afterwards but not another dime of my money will go there nor will I ever recommend them to someone. I finally took mine to a local person for the machine work and balancing and then assembled it myself. Doing the file fit rings was the most time consuming part of the whole assembly process.
