How much of a pain is this swap gonna be, electronically. Will I need to do some harness swapping, too?
Just lookin' for some feedback on this deal. Thanx for any & all info.

you dont necessarily have to get the harness, but you ll have to make sure the computer thinks youre in nuetral so itll start and bypass the clutch sensor or i guess you could judt push the clutch to start an automatic, personally i would just change the harness, get you one from a just yard, other than that the trans will bolt right up, you may have to change drive shaft yokes dont quite remember.
Thanx, Lambo. I figured on using another harness for the ease of the swap. I was told by my tranny guy that he thought I'd need the whole PCM from an auto truck, to get it to function properly, from the PCM. I've asked around on a couple pf forums & don't really get online all that often any more, ha.
I appreciate the replies though, keep'm comin'. Thanx.
Is this a 2000 full size? You will need an auto powetrain harness. Or I can sell you a 60e case connector with wires long enough to reach the PCM and MLP connectors also long enough. All harnesses will have micro pack 100 GM PCM terminals at the pcm end. Your speed sensor connector should swap from the manual to the auto.
If you did it this way, you wouldn't have to touch the engine harness. I will give you detailed instructions an pin locations.
You will either need a PCM from a vehicle with your engine size and a 60e then have it flashed by the dealer, or myself or Nelson could just load a 60e calibration segment into your PCM. PM me.
are you bracket racing now or something? that's the only reason i could see for doing an auto swap
Thanx vortecyota, l will PM ya with more info on it.
Zebra, the kid just doesn't wanna row his own gears 'cause he's lazy, I guess, haha. It's a 2000 fullsize single cab shortbed w/ a 4.3L.
so you should inconvenience yourself because he don't wanna learn something?
i ain't being judgmental or anything; i just think he should be more grateful he's getting a vehicle & just learn to drive it.
maybe that's cause when i was wanting to learn to drive, they told me "fine, but you're learning on a stick"
i tried to teach my little brothers on mine, one did somewhat alright but didn't wanna get better & the other just said he didn't want to. now i've got a great reason to never let them borrow the truck or the vette. :D
I hear ya, zebra, I learned the same way & am very thankful to know how to row my own. Alot of my ol' skool friends always say, if it doesn't have 3 pedals, it ain't no hotrod, haha. Believe me, I get plenty of folks asking for their personal projects, as well, ha.
You're right though, Lambo, it's a customer truck & I even said the same thing to this kat about being too lazy to shift his own gears, ha. I just threw'm a qoute off the top of my head for the 60E, knowing my tranny guy has a couple. I called'm to see if he still did & that's when the whole "control" issue came into play, ha. I'm glad he brought it up & I don't mind doing it, but the kid may not want to since it'll cost'm a tad more. We'll see.
Both of my kids will learn to drive a manual, fa sho! Ha, no doubt about it.
Well, I found what l was lookin' for & by george the guy w/the right answers is vortecyota. He's got the goods to make this swap happen. Now just waiting on the kid to come up w/the cash to get it done. Oughtta be alot more simple now that l can get what l need from vortecyota. Thanks again, my friend, for all your help & info.
Wow! No problem. What are your plans for a shifter?
Kid hasn't given any input, I figured an aftermarket floor shifter of any sort. I've always liked the B&M variety, myself. I'd guess if he wanted to go stock, we could swap to an auto column.
i got a stock auto column if you end up needing one, even has the keys in it. sell it cheap :thumb:
I'll take the 5spd/clutch/pedals when your done....I wanna do the 4l60e to 5spd swap...
I'm not sure if molitor would want this truck, it's bagged on 22's, V6 4.3L, Caddy clipped & needs some areas of the custom Tangelo Pearl paint blended, ha. It's actually a really clean lil' truck.
I will definitely find out what this guy wants to do with the 5spd. stuff when I'm done, for sure, molitor.
I may be callin' on ya, Lambo, for that column. He did say he wouldn't mind shiftin' from the floor, also. We'll see.
well shoot, if you're wanting a manual & it's 2wd, just do a T56 - i know it costs more, but it's well worth it (unless you actually tow)
