Hey peeps, FNG here....:ugh2: Anyone got any suggestions for tuning after installing a comp cams 54-455-11 cam in my 06 GMC sierra 4.8L? I havent put the cam in yet, but i was wondering if i can properly tune it using my diablo tuner or if i'd hafta take it to someone to get it right the first time? Daily driver so i cant afford downtime, only vehicle i have! Currently getting ready to drop in some 4.10s in the rear, then the cam will be next

I dont know of any around here either. They're suggesting a custom mail order tune if im not mistaken. Read around the site and youll catch on.
only problem with a mail order tune is i dont have HPtuners or similar, just the diablo. There is a diablo custom tuning shop in hopkinsville ky (bout 15 mins from me) but i've heard they arent that good. Dont trust my DD soon to b monster DD to just anyone. being this is my ONLY vehicle and a single father of two i cant send my ECM off to be tuned - cant have downtime. i can spend a day getting tuned but not days.... any suggestions?

Nelson or any other reputable tuner can send you an ecm to replace yours so there is no downtime.

hey kyhunter89 - know of any shops with a dyno in the hopkinsville/clarksville area? i havent been able to find one - want to get dyno'd and see what i'm putting down over stock since i started frankenstein-ing my truck

no way - truck came stock with 285 hp, and even if the part manufactorers claims WERE true ](18hp on a CAI? i dont think so but lets entertain this idea for a sec) that would put me at +18hp for the CAI, +40hp for the SLR motorsports chip, +25hp for custom exhaust work, +35hp from diablo tuner, that would be 403hp. Now we all know this IS NOWHERE NEAR THE TRUTH.... but your telling me i'm only putting down 200rwhp from a truck with those mods that came from factory with 285hp? (and we all know GM is notorious for lying about their true HP numbers). Even with the 4l60e trans and stock 3.23 gears the loss from flywheel to pavement isnt that great. i havent met a f-150, titan, tundra or hemi ram i havent smoked yet.Quote:

o btw your so called chip didnt give you 40, you didnt gain 25 from exhaust, not 35 from a diablo or 18 from a cai. all together you might of gained 25-35 from all those listed

wtf you smoking dude, LR4 are 270 hp and 285 torque the 5.3 LM7 was 285 and 325 torque. the heads on the 4.8 are same as the 5.3s all the LS motors love boostQuote:

I think 4.10's would be a good choice unless you are going with a tall tire.

What's a dyno? Never put my truck on one. At least with this engine.
Ur truck is probably producing around 250hp to the wheels on a cold day. Heat soak can really screw hp readings. The iat vs timing table is aggressive.
Ull also loose a few hp with steeper gears but gain a lot of acceleration.

Well after much fussin n cussin removing the old exhaust manifolds, the pacesetters slid right in. I uaed new felpro gaskets, no leaks, only costs $13 @ autozone. amazingly it wasnt the header bolts that gave me problems, it was the nuts on the ypipe flanges. Just took some pentrating oil and a lot of elbow grease. Now to go burn off the rest of that black paint.....
