I have a 90 rcsb with a 5.3 4l60e swap, mods are cai, cat delete, tru duals, tune. I have a 3.08 peg leg rear end in the truck and scale 3900 with driver. I have a slip for 14.6 @ 96 with a 2.3 60' and a 9.5 1/8 @76. Tires are 235/75/15 goodyear wranglers lol on steelie dans. I need to run better than a 14.1 to beat a buddies srt 4 neon thats his best time any ideas? I was thinking e-fans, 4.10 posi and bump timing a bit will that be enough?!?!?!?!?
ls6 cam (most pick one up for usually like a hundred bucks) would be great in that light truck, gears and a posi. And you should blow his doors off :). E fans dont make much diff in my opinion just spend the money on a cam
3.08 is killing you off the line. A set of 4.10s might pick you up .3-.5. That and a 3000 stall and you'd be running high 13s.
Getting the 4:10's in today and a quote for a stall vette servos and a shift kit. I want to see what the gears do before I do the tranny.Quote:

I'm nervous about a cam after last weekend, I get to the track and my first run is aginst a 2000 ish rcsb 2wd. I ask him what he's got and he smirks (I get this alot because nobody suspects a LS swap :D). He's got a 6.0 swap with a cam 2500 stall built trans with a shift kit and a 3.73 posi. I think crap this guys going to kill me...right? He gets me to the 60 and I pass him at the 1/8 th and beat him by .4 and trap 96 to his 91, I never saw him run better than a 15.0 all night and he had a 2.0 60. He did scale 600 lbs more than me but still or maybe it was his diablo sport handheld tuner idk but he should have beat me. Said he had a 224 lift cam? Why was he so slow I have a stock 5.3 stock tranny and had 3.08's I do have a tune but man I don't know.Quote:

Waiting on a posi not sure what direction I want to go yet, the problem is I drive this in the winter and posi is not great on a icy road. I might get a mini spool and just put it in for track time....
yea, i don't know on that one. i just know that most of these ls motors will respond well to a cam swap. even with the stock heads. i read an article a while back about a stock 5.3 getting a 75 hp boost with a cam swap only. i don't know if anyone has seen this kind of gain in real life, i haven't, and i'm sure the article was featuring a pretty heavy cam, but nonetheless...Quote:

yeah, 600 lbs is .6 seconds on equally powered vehicles in the 1/4 with all things equal from gearing to shift times and such. The rule of thumb is that you go .1 slower in the 1/4 for every 100 lb of weight your truck carries.

You don't have to get a true 100% locked differential... a LSD would suit you fine. You are a walking contradiction if you want to keep an true open differential and want to be fast.
I think the point was already made but to repeat!!,, don't do those gears without a posi, it's useless.
I think gears and decent traction will beat your buddies skittle. If his best was a 14.1 then I bet he averages 14.2-14.3. I ran a 14.05 @ 94, so you have the trap speed
sorry for some reason i was thinking you said the neon ran a 13.1 not 14.1, cam swap stall and gears and youll get him for sure.
i took the truck to the track last night, 14.3 with the 4.10gear change. Beat my buddies srt4 with stage2 3 out of 5 runs so that kept
him humble, he said he would have to make a HUGE error to loose to me.:laugh: If i heated up my tires i could let it idol at the tree and just stomp it and not spin a bit (18psi) my stall sucks like 1200ish and the track was prepped great too. Looking at posi next and then stall 26-2800, dont know much about these its a dd so... Then maybe a cam swap like the nelson one in the homepage writeup (100 horse on a budget? I think). so over all i was disapointed in my times I was hoping for more from the gear swap but I did beat the neon so thats one for the truck for now
Im not sure where youre getting this, but in my experience, a truck with a posi with go places a 4X with open diffs wont go. As long as the diff isnt a locker, you should do better in marginal traction situations with a posi. Hopefully youre running winter tires too and you wont have to worry.Quote:

To clarify Posi helps in snow at low speeds like taking off thus is true. But what I don't like is in Michigan the snow gets packed down and turns to ice and can stay like that for weeks. This basically means you are driving on a sheet of ice, and michiganders still drive 55 mph or better in these conditions because we are used to it. It is kinda hilly over by me and with the ice road climbing a hill with a crown at 55 and more than 1 tire breaks traction... It can get dicey to say the least. And no snow tires here throw 300 pounds of rock salt in the bed and RUN IT!!!Quote:

With proper tuning and a big 'ol 40k Tru-cool to keep it cool, you'll be fine dd'ing it.
That said I will put a posi in anyway and deal with the winter driving, because on the street it is horrible. It won't hook like it does on a prepped track on a dirty old street.
If its that slick there buy a cheap 4x4.... i would not have done the gear swap without a locker... put a posi in and run 13s all day every day... your pickup is fat! to me getting the fat girl going is the most important thing in getting any time. Making hp is the easy part..
