Bout damn time freakin 70 across the whole state, and whats the gayness about night time speed freakin texas
And here I though Kansas was making progress bumpin I70 up to 75....
this is stupid. i've driven to california and back too many times to know that this wont really make any difference. I drove to el paso going 70 and 80. the difference was about 20 minutes and i burned more fuel going 80. anybody who needs to drive faster than 75 is retarded.
that will be scary, lots of people can barley drive 70-75mph without getting into a wreck ( saw it last weekend) lol. i drove to tyler tx last week normally a 6 hour drive going speed limt, i made it in 5 hours going 80-85 mph, cut an hour off by going faster. but the gas mileage sux only got 16.2 mpg.
I. Cannot. Wait.
only good thing i see is itll help you get thru the dump they call west texas faster
that sucks, I only got 15 mpg on a good day and you get that going 80-85. :(
Doubt it will make much difference heading west from Sa on I-10 everyone was already going that fast if not more. Less tickets maybe :D
Its already 80 west of permian basin
Why is that? All it simply means is the speed everyone was driving already in the areas that will be allowed to bump up to 85 will now be legal. Most people dont know it but most highways built within the last 20 years all have traffic plans showing an 85mph speed limit. Most of the newer roads can handle 85 and there will be people who will go even faster but those will be the same type that already pass your ass out 10 doing 90+ anyway.
Im actually surprised its gone this far in the legislative process since all this will really mean is less revenue for the state off tickets. At this point it has only passed the house anyway and if you actually read the bill it only applies to NEW roads. The old roads will have to have traffic studies done to assess the viability of bumping the speed limit up and as of right now TXDOT is broke. The money will have to come from bonds which arent going to be on the ballot for quite some time. Hell TXDOT doesnt even have any money to build anything right now, the toll road we're building right now is funded by a Spanish company who will own all rights to the road for the next 50 years.
I always dive between 70-90mph. Still get passed all the time. I think it is a decent idea, but agree with 1slow01z71 it will take for ever to take effect. TXDOT is in no hurry to do anything with out years of study. Then they decide the project was not worth the effort and abandon it. Wonder why they are broke?
