he means ....do we slide it towards the rear...or towards the passenger side.
yeah i was half payin attn to posting, half playin xbox. sorry.. what andrew said
Set the front corners of the bed on the tires and the back on a sawhorse or something.
Use a sky hook, it will move the bed were it is supposed to go.
EDIT: Don't forget not to damage the cladding.
sky hook not available
4 guys can lift it
i guess no lift huh? very easy to drop the tank, but i wouldn't recommend doing it without a lift.
like he said, go towards the rear.
4? really? it only takes 2 people.
4.. dont forget .. i cant lift a bowl of cereal cuz of my back lol
I know, I was making fun of frenchy. The bed only weighs ~250 lbs if even that much.
I lift 250lbs out of my pants every time I piss. It only needs to slide ~ 1.5-2ft back at the most.
When I did mine we picked it up enough to go over the tires and rested te rear on some towels on the ground. Obviously not the most ideal, but it was there for all of 45 minutes. And then picked it back up and set it down and I got underneath and lined up 2 corners to help ensure everything was aligned properly.
Use an engine hoist or a come along and a tree. I can pull my bed completely off in 20 minutes by myself. It takes me longer to change spark plugs than to remove and replace the bed.
no tree nearby that could handle the weight.
+1 on the engine hoist. Just rig the four corners of the bed w/ tie downs/ratchet straps and pull tension until the bed lifts evenly - then slide back on the rear tires. I did this when changing my fuel pump on my lifted 93'.
You can pull the rear wheels and tires and slide the bed back and set the rear part of the bed on a saw horse like stated.
Bunch of novices.
Flip the truck upside down.
Another option is to get it up on jack stands, get a motorcycle jack from Harbor Freight (or similar (cheap)), and use that to lower and raise the gas tank.
But my preference is a minimum of three guys lifting it off and just set it somewhere safe.
i found it easier to remove the bed than to drop the tank. put the rear on jack stands, remove the rear tires and slide the bed back about 1.5 feet. no need for saw horses or any of that crap. the pump will be right there.
