hey guys
for a few months now, ive been trying to figure this out.
i floor it from a stop.. and i can feel clunkclucnklucnklucnk.. i let off the gas.. dont feel it.. floor it.. comes back.
If drive 'normal'.. i feel nothing
i had an alignment done , hoping theyd find something.. they just found a bad wheel bearing.. had that replaced..
problem still exists.. im thinkin the front diff (carrier) is haivng issues and needs to be replaced...
thoughts?
sounds like maybe spring wrapup in the rear end, maybe ujoint binding.
what the solution to spring wrap up.. and which u joint would you start looking at?
Mike check your trans and engine mounts.
Definitely check the mounts and all ujoints. Its not the steering shaft is it?
dont think its the shaft as im not turning
no idea what truck you have cause i can't keep up with all you guys, but a worn out transfer case does this on hard acceleration.
the gears or something are worn out and it slips, catches, slips catches, the SS and Denali trucks experience this.
just replaced another one not too long ago.

u hear it clunk at the beginning.. when the camera goes all sideways, i was wot around a cul de sac that was all snowy and it didnt happen.. but at the beginining, i was on snow by the curb

ah, so my guess your truck is an awd was right, not sure why it came to me, probably cause we just replaced one.
very common on your truck.
sounds to me like a tcase is bad.
i would just buy a new one from the dealer, $1200.
of course keep troubleshooting, i could be wrong.
oh ya, DO NOT put trans fluid in the tcase, use only dealer Autotrac fluid.
might as well get you an 80e and 408 while you're at it :)
408 is desired.. 80e is not.. my FLT lvl 5 + is still going strong :P

no i dont feel it going over bumps. only under hard acceleration on roads where the wheels are slipping\spinning.. ie snow\ice, etc

i called dealer and asked him if the t case from an 07 esky would work he said its a different family of parts
I'm just guessing, but i don't see why it would be any different, the tcase that is.
he said mine in a New Process family and that Esky is not in that family. i dunno .. by looking at that Esky i would assume it would work.
Keep in mind 90% of parts guys are idiots.
i called FLT and they said they can rebuild it.. obviously depending on the parts .. the viscous coupler being the most expensive one... now i gotta nail down a vehicle to drive after we remove the tcase and i bring it up there.
I hate to ask, but have you checked the fluid level? Sounds almost exactly like my 97 sounded after I found out there was NO fluid in it.

IIRC, back of transfer case on driver's side there is two plugs, check the top one. Maybe someone can confirm this?
yes back of t-case there are two plugs to the drives side of the out put shaft the bottom is drain the top is fill/level check
i vote.... fill that sucka with some thick gear oil...drive until the snow melts...and THEN worry about it :)

They are super easy. pull the driveshafts, a plug, 6 t-case to trans bolts and pop it off! two people is nice to stick it back on but i have done it by myself on my back
