I drove the truck about an hour and a half to get tuned. Then left it to be tuned. Picked it up and it was ticking. It has been ticking for a while. A long while. LOL It just seemed to be extra loud. I pulled the valve cover to find one rocker arm loose. The bolt was tight but this was the pushrod. The messed up end was the end touching the rocker arm. What the crap is with this hardened pushrod? Small cam with patriot dual gold springs.

Maybe oil wasn't getting fed through it. Can you blow through it?
Does the rocker move freely... I would think the rocker would fail before a hardned pushrod would.
Oil was on top of the rocker arm and it was not plugged. I am going to pull them all and change them Ordered new ones already. Waiting on them to get here.Quote:

I wonder if that particular pushrod didn't get properly or completely hardened from the factory. Maybe an inconsistent oil starvation problem due to a blocked oil passage in the rod? It only has to get burned once for the hardening process to be negated
The other thing is probably a collapsed lifter. Hate to say it, but if it was a pushrod defect it would have showed itself immediately.
ya think? if the material wasnt up to snuff then it would take some time to wear down like that, it wouldnt just go away like that over night because of soft metal...?

I hope it isn't a lifter. I was afraid of that to begin with.
can we see the other end of the pushrod please? i want to see what kind these are it looks like its the kind with the ball pressed on the end and not a single piece pushrod...

Well I guess all you can do now is install you new push rods and hope for the best. If you hear any ticking again then you know its time to pull the heads and get some new lifters. Also make sure the roller on the lifter and the cam lobe doesnt look damaged. It doesnt happen as often with these roller cams but you could still be wiping a lobe.
If it's a collapsed lifter you won't get any oil to the top and it will just happen again. Save some time and pull that head off.
Or at least have peace of mind.
The lifters all had oil on top of them when the valve cover was removed.
I sure hope it isn't lifters. IF it is I think I will get a z06 cam lifters and springs. Pulling heads sucks though.
GM is using LS7 lifters as standard replacements across the board now apparently. Reason I mention it is there's probably a price difference still.

All of the other rods on the passenger bank were worn. One was almost as bad as the first one I found. It is pictured above. When the first one was replaced it tightened down with no play at all. Hopefully it was crappy rods. My mechanic said it cranked and the noise was gone. I am still going to have him replace the rods on the drivers side tomorrow. Then I will drive it for a few days to see how it does. I guess that will tell me if it is a lifter. I was a little worried that the cam had some bad lobes.

With all of them being like that Id go with bad batch of pushrods, Ive never seen 4 lifters go bad at the same time without other catastrophic engine failure.
Im stickin with the bad batch of rods which didnt get properly heat-treated
I would be sending pics to the manufacturer and making them explain it...and send you new ones...
Well I think I have a solid explanation. Low fuel pressure + detonation = screwed push rods. Both banks on the inside cylinders pushrods look real bad and worn on all the rest. Crappy pushrods to boot.
I change my vote to push rods that DIDN"T get hardened...Complaint desk time
