Off-Road Forced Induction

I have a 2008 GMC 2500 w/ a 6.0. I am looking into forced induction but need some input on a reliable setup. I am currently fabbing up a coilsprung IFS for desert racing. Running WOT out in BFE, I would rather have a morereliable setup. I previously ran a dmax and a cummins but the trucks were entirely too heavy to handle extended whoops. .

So far I was looking at
-Pro-Charger
-Magnacharger

Looking at several of your setups on here, I was considering a front mount turbo. Anyone have any input on this in terms of reliability/durability?

running a magnacharger like that would get too hot and kill your performance...a front mount turbo would be the way to go with some meth/water for cooling...( my opinion...i have owned both and have front mount turbo now)

Those conditions could put a lot of stress on a turbo setup, but if it was built with that in mind with some bracing and heavier materials it would be fine

I get plenty of airflow, temp really isn't an issue. There's a few guys running pro-chargers but most of them out there have built 6.0's but they get like 7mpg. I'm running about 85+mph down oilfield roads and desert trails, just don't want $5K in engine parts bouncing off.

i dont offroad but i love my procharger, its been on the truck a while now with 0 issues. i like that it is self contained, not a lot of parts, and verry verry low maintanance. i have a heavy quad cab with a 5.3 and get better than stock mpg's most of the time. imo a roots blower would suck for what you want, my car has a roots blower that is awsome from a dig all the way till the spedo is buried and is very responsive for like 5 min then it is worthless. i agree with frenchy on the turbo if thats the route you go, their are a lot of parts, make them thick and heavy and find a good welder

i dd mine in the oilfield and yea those roads too...lol

IMO...might be better to go all motor on something like this. Get a cam made for higher RPMs and some free flowing heads. I'm assuming you're keeping this thing rev'd to almost max for miles at a time. Blowers are going to heatsoak fast, and the turbo is going to start to glow after a while. Buddy has a twin turbo eclipse he tried to autocross with. We could see the pipes glowing at the side of the track after the 2nd lap.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll go with the pro-charger for now, gotta be able to go back to factory rather easily. Believe it or not, there's guys out there w/ me wheeling the piss out of their trucks and quite a few of us are still under warranty. As long as I can keep from opening the engine for mods, i can bring it back to stock appearance for warranty work when it blows. I ran a 200 shot nitrous and fried the transmission in a sandy hill climb. Hooked up my step-dad's ecm, took off the nitrous setup, put on factory intake and they replaced the trans w/ no questions.

good choice, i think you will be happy with the procharger with what your doing. p1 or d1? for a heavy truck my avalanche moves pretty decent, none of the guys running diesels will even look at me anymore, they litteraly turn their backs to me when i creep by where they hang out (then they talk smack when im gone) i got the tuner kit used for $1900, everything minus the junk tuner and fuel system.

Not sure which one I'll go with, I'll be looking for used....hopefully I can find something on here.

So I've decided to go with the TrickPerformance Stage 1 kit. I already have 60lb injectors and efans. I'm looking at setups for intercoolers at the moment, leaning towards an air to water setup w/ heat exchanger. I'm running dual batteries under the hood so space is an issue.

Because of ground clearance and my sudden urges to run sh1t over, I'm not doing the low front mount A/A intercooler.

Here is what I'm interested in
-A/A IC high mount behind the grille
-A/W IC under hood w/ heat exchanger
