I spoke with Steven at patriot peformance and from our conversation, I came to conclude that my valve seals are not fully seated. This was my bust, but my question is......when installing the valve seals with the patriot dual gold springs, exactly how do you guys get the seal fully seated?? I have heard of people using a deep socket and a hammer but I'm not sure if that would work since I use compressed air to hold the valves up - the valve stem is probably taller than a deep socket :(

Sorry to keep clarifying guys, but do you mean to say that a deep socket will, in fact, be tall enough? And will the seal "click" or make any distinct sound or feeling when it seats?Quote:

Don't the seals have bases on them, which the springs sit on top of? Spring pressure should be enough to push them all the way down. I guess the sound would change to a very solid sounding one once it's all the way down to the seat base.
Nevermind, :doofus:. The seals don't have bases to them.
The later heads do have the seal and the spring seat made together. You can't use that type with dual springs though.Quote:

I pulled the valve springs off and no surprise to me, the seals were not exactly "all the way" down. Some of them actually floated up on the valve stems. I took the springs off the new seals, slid them down the valve stems, hammered them down with a 3/8" drive deep socket, reinstalled the valve seal springs, then put the valve springs back on. I gotta say tho, it was a much easier process with all the car club guys BS'ing and helping me out. Only time will tell if my oil consumption issue is over. I just hope that the next time I check the oil, it won't be lower than what it was a week earlier.
