check engine w/ lt's
ok so after 7 hours (3 spent hacksawing my y pipe out cuz i wa too cheap to buy a sawzaw) i got my longtubes on everything seems good but when i started the truck the check engine light has come on, but i dont see it flashing a code just the light is on. when i started it i didnt have the why pipe on yet could that maybe cause it cuz it was about 65' out last night and the o2 was getttin some cool air? rear o2s should be cut off with tune, is it possible i fouled one of the fronts? or maybe a spark plug? it doesnt seem to be missin or idlein real real rough
-
the light came on right away? Even if the rear 02's weren't turned off, it takes some driving to thro wth code.
Without the y on, maybe too much heat loss for the front 02's.
-
yeah the light came on while it was still on the ramps i started it to check for leaks before i put the new y on it was 62-65 degrees last night
-
-
i havent had a chance to check ill get the y on this afternoon then run up to autozone and see what they say

Did you plug in the tune before you started the truck? If so then you might need a crank relearn. Or another possibilty is if you didnt pull your plugs out when installing them you might have smacked a plug with the header and cracked it? That happend to me and it drove fine everywhere except light throttle where it would stumble which I had no idea what it was at first because I didnt realize I had a cracked plug. Maybe one of your plug wires isnt on all the way?
-
if its just a crank relearn needs done then thats easy to do if you have access to HPTuners or EFILive. I'd say drive up here and I'll do it for you but Denton is quite a drive from Stephenville.

Unless you specifically told nelson to turn off the rear O2s they won't be off. Did you unplug any sensors while doing the swap?
-
This thread is pretty pointless until you read the code and find out what it says.
-
i got it checked this moring the code its throwing is "lean in bank 2" i checked the plugs they look good...........could it be the front o2? would bank 2 be the passenger side?
-
Something similar like this happened to me when I put my headers on also. Actually looking for the answer why is what brought me here. I ended up changing an O2 sensor and it fixed it. Someone told me that the headers might have had something inside the tubes to ruin the sensor. which sounds plausible, but you never know. just try checking the voltage in them to see if they are all consistent. And yes, I believe bank 2 is passenger side. the code should say like bank 2 sensor 1 or something like that.
-
all the stuff that burns off them when you first let the truck could foul the sensors cuz the headers smoked forever until it all got burnt off.........well i checked all the plugs to see if it was misfiring and causing it to run lean all good, i switched the sensors from the passenger side to the driver side and nothing the code went off so i switched it back and nothing it was still off i went to work at 12 let the truck sit til 530 started it again and it came on for like 1 or 2 mins after it idled it went away...i think i have a small exhaust leak that closes up after the metal warms up and expands
-
you may need a tune now. when i had a trans am i put some long tubes on it and it made it run lean, not bad, the plugs looked fine and it ran fine, the o2s were switching, but it kept setting an engine light. had it tuned and it was all good
it may not be necessary, but engines are so sensitive these days i usually recommend a tune after any perf upgrade, that is if you have access to free re-tunes or something of the sort.
-
oh yeah its been retuned by nelson and switched in before i even did the header swap....since i drove it yesterday afternoon i cruised around quite a bit yesterday and this mornin and the light hasn't came back on whatever it was must have sealed itself or fixed itself not sure but it works haha

sweet, good to hear its running well
