Anybody know where i can find a 160 thermostat for my 09 Sierra 5.3?
Orileys. Vato zone.
ive been thinking on puttin one in my 08'? but ive heard good and bad things on em...can anyone confirm?retuning needed for this?
Retuning is not needed, in short its really just another way to prevent detenation and make your engine run at or around 180, the 195 thats come in it is mostly for emission reasons. Theres is a lil bit more to it than that, others can probally explain in detail. Ran one in my 2000 for 10years with zero issues.
i ran one in my 2000 as well but it did not have e fans like our newer trucks..tuning may be needed for on/off fan adjustments maybe?idk
Not worth it on stock setup
^^ Can you elaborate a little please? Im sure Stunna would like to hear more aswell...

Rumor has it that the cold tstats overwork your water pump. Not sure if this is a negligible point, but it's what I've heard
unless you require the additional lower temps for say a boosted motor, big compression motor or a bottle drunk of a motor then a stock 198* is plenty especially for a daily driver. You dont gain power with a stat. Timing with or without is the same.
not mentioned in winter months your heat isnt as hot as it would be with a 198* stat
water pump is always under load if anything it frees up the restriction sooner then later. figure with a earlier opening temp the water pump is flowing sooner then later, so if anything the stock stat puts more load on the pump
