I recently swapped my 5.3 engine out for a 6.0 in my 04 tahoe. We also installed a small gm performance hot cam with a nelson tunned pcm. The truck runs great, but has a less then desirable idle. The problem we have is when you are in drive but at a stop the truck bucks and jerks slighty making you feel like it wants to move when the brakes are on. It is very anoying to deal with. Does anyone have any ideas at what to look for? Thanks guys.

You may need a stall to take full advantage of the cam, but you shouldn't need one just to make it idle without taking off. What is the idle RPM?
It is set to 800 rpm, i orgionally had it set to 650 but it stalled all the time. The truck jerks at stop or going to a stop and actually bucks less at the 800rpm idle then it did at the 650 idle.
what are the cam specs?
What do you not like about the idle; lope, speed, etc...
With a big enough cam, a stock stall will make it act up around idle speeds
Sounds like when the cam lopes it's trying to engage the converter. Is the converter still stock?
The converter is still stock. The came is a gm performance ls1 hot cam. I actually bought it because it wasn't as aggressive. But it feels like the converter is constantly catching during idle. I did nt think this would happen.
We'll you can change that converter out in a day if need be by yourself... unless it's 4x4 then you better get some help
Any recomendations for the toque converter. I know just getting to the bolts on the bellhousing was horrible. I eventually had to take the intake off to get to the ones on the top.
once you lower the transmission (cross member out ) you should be able to get to them with 2 long extentions and a swivel electrical tape on the swivel will help if it's really loose. If the truck is up high enough you can kinda sit behind it and see them have some one help you guide tools if needed. Torque Converter is kinda up to you, you don't want to much of a stall may effect normal driveability. I'd probably go with like a 2000 stall from monster transmission about $350 $450 with a 3 year warranty. Yank has a good line up, but I believe the lowest they have is a 2600. All depends on how you drive cam rear gear etc. It can be a tricky process choosing the right converter to fit your needs. There is probably a few people on here that can help you choose better than myself. This truck is my first automatic.. Call a TC dealer and let them know what your working with and they can probably point you in the right direction. I have the Monster 1650 and I like it, but when I pull the motor to go 6.0 I'm going to the 2000.
For what you are doing, I would go with the Yank truck thruster. It is a quality item and will work for your set up.
Its not the converter its your tune, i had to spend a while on my tune before i got it to idle how i wanted it to. And i have a 1500 stall tci converter. Its just a tricky cam to idle.
that is the hard part of the mail order tune. When we called Nelson they sorta thought it was the torque converter as well.
