i have been trying to get the bolt off for almost 2 days now, i have used 2 air guns breaker bars and all kinds of WD40. anyonw have any ideas that will work. i also tryed the pull the starter and put a screw driver in the flywheel to lock down the engine. nothing seems to be working. i need help before i just give up.
just use a long breaker bar, also slide a pipe over the bar for added leverage. we've done many and have never had one that wouldnt come off.
sounds like you just need more leverage.
how do i lock down the engine so it wont turn over.
i slide a solid piece of metal like a crow bar i the harmonic balancer and let it it hang up on the ac bracket might have to cut it , i also have a 4 foot cheater pipe on a breaker bar. . good luck
Yep thats what I did. A bar through the HB and torque away. I think the factory put some threadlocker on the bolt. Thats why it is tight.
ratchet strap will work to, wrap it around the balancer then hook it to the frame, motor, fender, where ever...then put your big boy pants on and give it hell :lol:
Yea i just chained the pulley to the frame and took a big breaker bar and went to town on it.
snap on impact gun....came right off :)
putting pulley back on is hell though.
Chain through the balancer is how I do it, too. :thumb:
Na.. propane torch and it slides right on..just heat the inside though or u will melt the front seal....usually about 5-10 minutes of heat and itll slide right onQuote:

thanks for all the help. i finally man uped and bought a big boy impact gun, 500 lbs of torque was all it took to break it free. thanks again for all the input. i post a video when its all done

Take a punch, put it on the head of the bolt, wack the piss out of it a few times. Then take heat the bolt up some( NOT GLOWING RED) Now put your breaker bar on it, along with a 3ft cheater bar, it will come right out.. :)
Putting the pully back on is the easy part, if you get a bolt from a z06 there about an inch longer.
I used an impact rated at 900 lbs of torque to remove and instal crank bolts. To reinstal, put the pulley in a pot of boiling water for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then run outside with it while holding it with your mama's hot mits and slide under your truck and put it on the crank shaft. Then with the original crank pulley zap it on with the impact. Make sureit is fully seated. Remove old crank bolt and instal new 1. Be sure to torque it back. That is how I installed my underdrive pulley. Accept for my mom's hot mits. I used my wife's instead...lol
