8.1's are good for one thing....
getting money at a scrap yard
if you want speed 6.0. If you want to be able to tow, go diesel
You have some odd taste my friend...
:barf: lol I hope this is a joke.
buy a murauder but keep it 4door imo and dont lift it... and yeah 8.1's are good for nothing. if you wana tow (which would be stupid you have a truck) get a duramax, if you want to go fast, get a duramax
If you want to go fast and not break constantly get a Cummins
 that is the funnies thing i have heard all day!!! no really it is. ill put my dmax up to a cummins ANY day of the week. I bet i go faster, pull harder, get better mpg's, and last longer. Not to mention your talking about putting this in a car, NX mustang runs 8's on a stock dmax long block, not to mention its way lighter and you can actually tune it, where a cummins you cant really tune one. Want me to go on? oh ok the last "fast car" i saw with a cummins swap was a c5 vette it has a good size turbo it runs high 12's i rest my case :melissa:
i know i have odd tastes. and i dont want a marauder. but if i build the next town car (and i know they're the same cars with different motors) i already decided against the 2 door. and as far as motor, its either a 6.0, 8.1, or a 5.4 dohc motor. i like diesels but i'm not really interested in the extra maintenance costs. and i doubt it would do any towing if i lifted it that much. maybe if i didn't lift it more than a foot but if i kept it the same height i still doubt i would tow more than its own weight if i towed with it at all. it will probably start with a truck frame like a navigator or maybe a hd truck. maybe i should start with a 3500 and shorten the frame and put some big rig wheels on it.... lol.
I dont like to dog on anyone so more power to ya but did ya really think you would get a lot of support with an idea for a lincoln town car on a chevy truck site?
maybe if its improving on a ford with chevy performance
its not the first time a ford has been powered by a chevy :)
It's not the ford powered by a chevy part I don't understand. It's all the rest of it.
lol
Luke I hate to burst ur bubble but a cummins will outpull any duramax anyday of the week and outrun most of em.
My bestfriend has an 11sec megacab that he races and uses to truck pull on the wkends and pulls a 544b loader during the wk.
Ur truck wouldnt beable to budge that trailer, trust me his dad has one.
he has 10k including a fully built race tranny.
And there is no way ur truck can pull it. its not heavy enough. his dads CC can barely move it with a good bit of mods, Y dont u hook up to something that heavy and actually try to pull it then get back with me.lol
O yea and Luke does ur truck even have a goosekneck hitch in it? Im guessing thats gonna be a negative..
just sayin...(see pic) :D as long as im under 2k lbs tong weight i can tow in excess of the 20,000lbs area, the truck use to be a hotshot truck and has probably towed around 15,000 often. I right around 5k and im low 12's easy i just need the tuning time with it and im hoping to squeeze a 11.9 pass out of it but we will see. As soon as i can find a worthy weight trailer to hook up to i will and ill get it weighed :naughty:

Wow, a lot of BBC hate here.
well the only reason i wouldn't go cummins is the shear size and weight. the only reason i wouldn't go duramax is i just never liked duramax and the wright. they both have downfalls and they both have good too. but one over the other would be cummins for me but personally i think there is still alot to be had with an 8.1 but if it ever got in the mud it might not perform as well as a small block. i guess the difinitive factor would have to be $$$ whenever i got to that point. if i could find a 3500 chevy with a trashed body i would probably just run whatever motor it had in it to begin with. which would probably be a cummins. if i found a dodge 3500 it would probably have a cummins. and i really doubt i would tow with it anyway. really just not economical. but would be interesting to see. but its not like theres a good place to put a gooseneck in the car so i dont need crazy towing ability
I'm used to real Cummins', like the ones in front of a 10 speed. Ever seen a Western Star with 15 tons of 'taters on outrun a Harley F150? I have. We have a mega cab with a 6.7 too and it does OK, gone back to the dealer a few times for stupid emissions crap failing though. Way more balls stock for stock than any D-Max I've driven though. I've never had much to do with modded diseasels except turning up pumps and straight pipes.
Thanks and just to be clear im not a cummins hatter i do like them (especially for the price) but the dmax i do think is better in many ways and its very underestimated alot of people dont realize what they are really capable of
well if we are talking big power plants im a cat guy all the way but then again its all i work on ummmmmmm the 3500 series
now im a chevy guy through and through but i have yet to see a duramax spin all four wheels with nothing more than a tune. My friends ram 2500 can, and it makes me insanely jealous....
Dmax has gone faster than any cummins or stroker, cummins are WAY overrated.
cummins blow.... literally... all my budies have blown their trucks up repeated times trying to come close to keeping up with my dirtymax... my old dmax.... still clicking along with all stock hard parts.... i will prove it any day racing, pulling, mpg.... longevity for sure....the end
quit the diesel talk, i would like to see his project come to life. its unique and would be really nice as long as he doesnt lift it.
