It depends on what you really end up doing for performance upgrades and also how good of a deal you find on a motor/trans/harness. It's been done for as low as ~$1200 but don't be suprised if your total gets over $3000.
well i found trans/engine/harness deal for about 800
Well what all does the motor come with? I've seen motors come with hoses, lines, air tube etc. That stuff adds up. If you were really trying to do it the cheapest possible then you could probably get away with doing it for around $1500. To do it you could forget the performance upgrades, modify your own harness, tune it yourself, make your own adapter plates, sacrifice A/C, and steal all the new fluids. But probably you are going to have to buy or source out most or all of that.
damn i just need a better source of income...i'm not giving up my ac especially living in tx
Well if your A/C system works currently then you could have it with the new motor for about $350-400
I didn't realize the price differences. The 5.7 LS1 and T56 I got (not installed yet) cost me $3500 with the harness and computer.
sheesh well you got a good combo but it cost you.
yeah ls1's are too steep for me. I just got a 98 ecsb, Kinda throwing the idea around of going with a 6.0 when the v6 craps out

Basically, realistically, its not practical to install an LS engine into an OBS truck, UNLESS...its your baby, and you plan on keeping it for a number of years. It can get costly due to the extras. Its not a plug and play, by any means. Its much easier to rebuild or replace what engine you have. BUT...the all-around performance of an LS engine is night & day when completed.
I agree 100%. Even though we all love our LS conversions & would'nt have it any other way, anyone that hasn't done one, but is going to do one, really doesn't know yet, how many little(and sometimes costly) extra's come into play, that you won't see in a conventional engine repower. So many new LS conversion guys come on here to proudly(rightfully so) tell us, or show us, their LS progress, an say: "Well...I started this project 6 months ago, and I'm finally just about to fire this bad-boy up". lol Cracks me up...cause I know exactly what they went through to get it to that point. And chances are, they STILL have to install exhaust, intake snorkel, gauge wiring, etc, lol. All this, when the old 305 engine could have been rebuilt/replaced in a week-end, lol. But...Is it worth it? Oh Yeah! It sure is.:)
I love my swap and would do it again.
flattopwill...I listened to your video & like the sound of your exhaust system. What exactly does it consist of? Thanks
It is what's in my sig with dual 2.5" pipe coming off the headers into a Y then 3" pipe into a single in dual out Flowmaster with turn downs under the front of the bed. I love how it sounds as do most but if you are looking for quiet don't go this route (I remembered your earlier post about mufflers). It's not as loud as say a "bullet" style muffler but still pretty loud and resonance is horrible from 1500-1900rpm. Also, I think this muffler slightly disguises the chop of the cam. Other wise, I love it.
you dont wanna know what i have tied into my swap...
i recalled parts that i forgot, such as vette servos, billet 4th gear servo and biller cover. i had to buy a starter/ALT/powersteering bracket.
i have atleast 8k in my swap
