Where is a good place to get a deeper 4L60E tranny oil pan for my 04 Silverado? Going to change the fluid and filter soon, so I figured it would be a good time to get one.

They have a few options on ebay (most are summitracing) there are some relatively cheap chrome ones...and the good ones are about 150-250
i was just looking for one a couple weeks ago
So, I forgot to ask if I will need to get a different oil pickup tube.
One thing I learned after running with a Tru-Cool 40K for a while down here in TX is that my tranny stays cool enough to justify staying with a steel deep pan, even running a higher stall torque converter.
I recently ordered a Dorman 265-811 OEM deep steel pan *with drain plug* for $44.99 shipped. You could put the money saved into upgrading your factory cooler, if you even have one.
Unlike some of the horror stories I've read about the drain plugs not coming off the OEM pans, this drain plug actually unscrews! The first thing I did when I received my pan was to make sure I could remove the drain plug by hand with a socket wrench. Works like a charm!
I could probably go with a steel pan since I don't pull anything with my truck.
The dipstick is the same for both pans, just need different filter.
B&M ftw.
Has anyone heard of the brand TCI? It's aluminum, cooling fins, and holds 2 extra quarts. I can order it from Auto Zone for $190.
it's only 140 on ebay.... one I ended up ordering
tci is THE NAME for oldschool torque converters and such...should be a real good product
I run a TCI pan.
just an fyi, when they say it holds two extra quarts, they mean 2 extra over the car pan. The truck pans hold the same amount.
So.....my stock pan and the TCI pan hold the same amount? If so, what is the benefit of the aftermarket pan?

derale seems to be the way to go. about 140, 4" deep, so will hold 2 qts more then standard truck pan. Claim 20-50* drop in temperature. Has tubes that help cooling, lot more surface area then 'fin' design.
Does the temperature drop really improve performance and tranny life? I don't do any racing or pulling so I'm wondering if going with one of these would benifit me in any way.
Well, the whole point of more fluid is lower temperatures. Same with adding tranny coolers. #1 killer of trannys is temperature. If 140 dollar pan makes trans last an extra 6 months, it's worth it for me.
I'm assuming if you have modded the truck you atleast beat on it a little bit. It may not be necessary, but sure wouldn't hurt. I have synthetic fluid in mine, a larger radiator, and external factory trans cooler. 165k on the clock and I beat on my pretty bad. Fluid is still bright red, and i haven't touched it in 65k miles (which is why I'm getting deeper pan before I put my cam/heads on)
I'll romp on it once in a while. I have a factory external cooler, but my truck doesn't have a trans temp gauge, so I don't know what it runs normally. I guess doing it won't hurt anything, so what the hell.
You will see a greater temp drop with a tru-cool 40k trans cooler.
as opposed to the deep pan?
how about a finned trans cooler? do these work any good with a stock external? 18" RED Anodized Finned Transmission Cooler trans oil : eBay Motors (item 330431073693 end time May-13-10 16:49:44 PDT)
