Another manifold thread

So I have been searching for an hour, and I'm more confused now then when I started.


I have a lifted truck that rarely sees RPMs above 3k. (ok that's a lie..but i want this discussion to be in the idle-3500 rpm range) I have an aftermarket, larger 3 bolt tb. (I think it is 80mm, I ordered it a few years back, I can't remember, I just know it was for a ls1 car, and came with a small spacer to make it work for the truck)


1)Given unlimited money/modification what is the best manifold to run?

2)Given unlimited money and a DIRECT BOLT ON, what is the best manifold to run?

3)What is the most economical DIRECT BOLT ON manifold to run?



I have been looking for used FAST intake, but after reading through old posts it looks like they might need custom fuel rails and/or brackets. Also found a dyno chart and it didn't look like it made ANY extra power until top end.

I found a lot of talk about the tbss intake. They are A LOT cheaper, but no one seems to have a dyno chart. I'm assuming this is a direct bolt on.

I looked into the ls6 style manifolds, but once again, they only seem to help top end, and I don't want to modify anything for power I'll never use.

TBSS or the FAST truck intake... or maybe the proflo, but idk what kind of gains people are seeing with it

Depends if you're NA, nitrous, or boost.

I think the only real direct bolt on without modification is another truck manifold. All the others require mods

I would say stock is the best for you. Put your money in gears, im sure that 60 is crying.

Trans has 165k miles on it....65k since lift...I think it's alright

Def go for gears for your low end power..unless you're wanting to jack with your motor just so you can put more mods in your sig... :nutz:

But yea, any intake mods are only gonna benefit you on the upper rpm range when the motor is wound up....fuel flow is not an issue at low idle. I've been building rock rigs and offroad trucks for about 8 years now....gears are the most overlooked part of any performance build.

Like I said...I want to turbo it eventually. Low gears are better for turbo, cuz you're in boost longer. I'm basically just looking for something to give it a little power on the highway, cuz at 70, it can barely get out of it's own way unless I drive in 3rd, then it has all the passing power I could want.


I'm worried gears will make my highway gas mileage go DOWN, which is what I'm trying to avoid for the time being. I figured the RIGHT intake won't HURT, and it'll be even more beneficial when I actually get into it. Probably 80% of my driving is highway because I only work 3 miles from home.

If your truck cant hold speed on the highway without being in 3 you definitly need gears. Even where you want to go turbo you need at least 4.56-4.88 gears with those 36s,5.13 if you stay n/a.
You will get better milage if your engine isnt lugging all the time like it is with those 3.73s.

Your lugging your motor really hard on the highway. If you put gears in your high way milage will go up. Your gear ratio is really far off even if you want tall gearing for boost.

Well with that statement looks like your only option is a NNBS truck manifold or TBSS manifold. All the car intakes require the car accessories.

There is the LSXRT 102mm manifold, it shouldn't take too many mods to install. It is meant for trucks.

Edit: You do have to buy a fuel rail mounting kit and throttle body. It's about $1600 total plus shipping.

With aerodynamics of a barn door, I would hold off for a turbo and save your money....20 HP and over a grand later you'll wish you waited..

you have ALOT of other mods to do before you even consider a manifold change IMO.

Still might throw a tbss intake on, but like I said i was looking for a used FAST (didn't plan on spending over 450 for one)


Trans/fuel pump/injectors will all go on before the turbo. I want to make sure nothing blows up a week later lol. Figured might as well knock out the intake if I'm replacing injectors.
