Did you happen to the read the whole article? Especially the part where it mentioned that shortly after his record breaking shot, He suffered a minor gunshot wound and then his Humvee hit a roadside bomb and he broke both of his arms. That freakin sucks. Cangrats to him though, Helluva shot!
Making a sport/record out of killing ppl, that's awesome, hahah.
it is the most coveted record of ALL records... anyone that doesn't like it, hasn't ever had to defend their country. Shooting at that distance is about 1% talen and the rest complete luck
thats badass
Saw it on PT.net Freakin awesome. The guy took a taliban bullet to the helmet and it deflected the bullet enough to not hurt him badly. Def the record of records. The % is a whole lot less that 1 % I would say less than 1/10th of 1 percent have the talent to be snipers.
I do not have it.
I would say its 1% talent and 99% luck. However it does take 100% brass balls.
my brother and my Dad do competitive long range, they are both very competitive in the 1000 yd class. I could run off a bajillion numbers and figures and math, but basically we figured this shot out today, he would have had to have about 330 feet of holdover, massive amounts of wind correction, it is an incredibly impressive shot, wasn't even using a .50 either. Some kind of .338 spin-off.
Doesn't bug me at all, I'm pretty impressed. You would be too if you had any idea what it takes to make that kind of shot
I'm fully aware of what it takes to make such shots, there is more mathematical skill and intuition involved than just luck. Curvature of the earth, barometric pressure, wind, temp, and load consistency play a major part. No luck needed if you can pull these off all day long. BTW I have a Barrett M98B in .338 Lapua w/ Leupold MK IV 8.5-25x50 and am quite capable of shots in the 1000M range w/ Berger Bullets.
This is a pretty awesome shot if you actually have some experience to gauge the distance by.
I shoot a Model 70 in .260 (.308 necked down to a 6.5mm), same scope. Nosler Partitions.
that was the most inpressive thing I thought Sleeper, that it was a .338...that breaks the non .50cal record by infinity I'm sure...
the wind where they are at that range can be coming from 3 or more directions through the path of the shot, and be 10+ cooler/warmer from point a to b it is a great shot, but absolutely lucky.
