What are the pros and cons to deleting it? Is it gonna screw up my computer?
On the 2001. Get rid of it.
Pros: less crap in the engine bay, cleaner intake, get rid of a restriction behind the TB.
Cons: need tune to eliminate codes.
+1 who wants that crap
can a dealership clear the codes or do you need the tune.
If you're not having problems with it, why not leave it alone? Lower emissions and using less fuel.
is there really a performance gain?
I would never REPLACE it...but why fix what's not broken.
The dealership and Thunder racing sell a block-off plate for the intake side to delete it. Just get some headers, a tune, and the block-off plate and your done.
If anything, you'll lose performance.
Wrong person to call a hippy..
It actually helps lower combustion temperatures and lowers fuel consumption while cruising. During idle and WOT it's not in use.
so what your saying is everyone that has deleted EGR needs to put it back on because it will perform better?
The way it was explained to me, is that the exhaust it recirculates is still a lot colder then the combustion chamber so it helps CRUISING. Like stated before idle/WOT are not affected so 'performance' no...economy yes
how much of a gain are with talking, like 1-2 miles per gallon, or something so small that it aint worth my money and time.
you know what, thats not a bad idea.
But your engine is HIGHLY inefficient. So that exhaust still has gas in it, so technically you're forcing more gas into the engine then just the injectors.
I know it's a dirty system, and removing it keeps the engine cleaner, but it should help gas mileage (whether its 3mpg or .1mpg I do not know)...even if it does hurt performance slightly.
i noticed no difference, with or with out the egr. I took it all off just cause it looks cleaner.
here is some more info, i say just take it all off IMO
should i take off my egr valve? pros and cons? - LS1TECH
EGR VS. NO EGR...Wat are the Pros and Cons? - LS1TECH
the point is, gm eleminated the need for the EGV with better tuning and changes to emissions systems on gm vehicles. So you can obviously do without the egr and its negative effects by updating your vehicle to comply with the newer standards
Deleted EGR, tuned out, no cats, etc....
I love the smell of raw fuel. Reminds me of being on the boat.
There is more than enough fag cars like Prius's, Smart, Honda Fit, etc...for us to do as we please now.
