tru-cool 40k
biggest one they make
I have two small 25k and 15k in front inline and it cools awesome
Wow, really? Three tranny coolers? Plumbed in series? Do you also use the radiators cooler as well?
i got the biggest haden one from Oregon performance transmission. 55 shipped and good for 30,000gvr
tru cool 40,000 seems to be the most common choice. better too big than not big enough.
Yeah the first cooler I had wasnt big enough, and I found another for under 10 bucks. So rather sell one and buy one more expensive, I bought another LOL
40k here, I ran mine after the stock rad cooler. Helps get to operating temp more efficiently. Go big and never worry about hi temps ever again
What is a stock 4L60E operating temperature, versus after adding coolers?
Mine is pretty consistent at the 150 mark with the 40k and still through the radiator. With the stock trans cooler it was 200+
Yep heat is the trans killer
BB
how is 210* water gona cool 160* trans fluid tho? wouldnt the rad cooler thing just heat up the fluid..?
You need it heated up to get it up to temp, and thats why you run the auxiliary cooler after the radiator cooler. I would never have gotten thru the winter up here if I just bypassed the stock cooler, because that 40k is pretty efficient and the fluid would never have heated up for most of my trips around town. And btw, I got my secondary cooler because my trans temps were up around 210-220* on average. I could only of dreamed of 160* temps before that new cooler
I'm not exactly sure how the thermodynamics works on that but mine cools the 80e to 160 degrees with just the smallest of GM's external trans coolers after the radiator tank cooler. The important thing about the tank mounted cooler is that it brings the over 210 degree temps down to 210 very quickly when needed. If you ever got the trans fluid up around 230 with an air to air cooler it would take a very long time to cool it down. Running a big stall with gobs of TQ will cook the trans fluid in no time in stop and go traffic without quick cooling. Pull a trailer and it will aggrevate the situation even more.
yeah it seems that retaining the stock cooler and running the aux cooler inline gives you a more stable and consistent (along with being lower) temp range
O.K...Last question. What is a stock 4L60E oil pressure, before and after, installing a 40,000 GVW cooler?
I think the stock trans cooler is more a pre heater than cooler... Just my .02 i have 2 30k b&m super coolers on mine, with a deep pan,And no rad cooler/ heater, and havent ever seen it get over 150, and usally stays around 120.
a rangefinder even
i run this one. used it on my 60e and still using it on my 80e 40,000 gvw
Tru-Cool MAX transmission cooler *No external cold weather thermal bypass: transmissioncoolers.us
he(well a deer helped) even took his grille off so that the air wasn't being block in any way to help cool.
anyone have any pics of how they did thier cooler set up on a NNBS?
I you don't hook up your a/c a friend of mine used his condenser as his tranny cooler. its for his bush truck but adds alot of oil volume and i don't think you would have cooling issues.
