Best Lift Kit
OK, so after many months of thinking and going back and forth I have chosen to lift my truck. I want to run 33 35 inch mud tires and i want to go 3.5 or 6 inch lift kit, what is the best kit I can get for the least amount of money. What would you guys recommend.
-
For your truck, get a RCD Suspension and don't look back.! You will wish you have if you don't. They has better shocks. stainless steel torque bars. nice sway bar links and a cool wrinckle power coated.
-
they look like they are pretty nice, should i put the whole thing in myself or pay some company to do it. Or should i just do a 3 inch body lift and run 33 mud tires and call it a day, that sounds a lot cheaper. the truck is still a daily driver.
-
That's up to you. A 6" lift will not affect a DD truck. I have installed 3 of this kits. It will take a day, I had lifts but can be done without. If you just want 33" go the cheap route.
-
So if i just want to run 33s, you would recommend just a 3 inch body lift. What does it cost to have a 6 inch lift installed.
-
probably looking at 6-900 for install depending on where you go for install.
A body lift is about 300, and can be done in about 8 hours TOPS with 2 people and standard tools. I would do a leveling kit/body lift for now, then when you get the bug in a few more years, add a suspension lift.
-
thanks for all the help, i think i will just go for the body lift i dont have that kind of cash yes. Why should i use a leveling kit with a body lift.
-
It's not necessary, but relatively cost effective means of getting a couple inches. New keys/small block in back goes a long way on a stock truck.
-
Alright so 3 inchs of body lift and leveling kit will that give me about 5 inches of hight or more, and with some 33s will it look goofy at all, and do you recommend a brand for the leveling kit.
-
it wouldnt look any more goofy than a lifted truck, and lifted trucks dont look goofy. when you break it down what will you be saving by buying a body lift, bumper brackets, gap covers, and all the bs involved like the fan shroud and on and on, and then on top of it keyways, blocks, and getting your front end lined up? when you buy (even a low end kit) it usually has every thing you need to do it right, other than maby it has low grade bolts. at the end of the body-torsion lift you will be in over half of a true lift.
-
the biggest problem is i just dont have the money and i want something for this summer. And i found a few lift kits for about a grand but i want to have in installed by a shop, i just dont trust myself to do all the work, but i figured i could do a body and level kit. thanks for the advice, i will get a better lift in a few years.
-
-
sweet, thank you, The 6 inch lift is starting to look better and better. but i just dont have the cash. thanks again for the links.
-
i loved my avalanche 2500's bds lift, imo. i think when the new wears off the torsion/body lift you will regret not getting the 6" lift. you find or buy tires yet?
here is a link to see my old avalanche with the lift.

-
i always wanted an avalanche, just never could afford it, but man that thing looks great. And i think i will just run some 33 inch retreaded mud tires they are like 100 bucks brand new. I figure that sounds pretty good to me.
-
my body lift was like 280 from summit...came with EVERYTHING except gap guards (which I still don't have)
bumper brackets/steering extension/etc etc.
On a budget, it's the way to go. Doesn't mess with factory geometry, no added stress on balljoints/tie rods/etc. DO NOT go with a cheap suspension lift.
I'd do body lift now, then when you have money, suspension later on.
Just a body lift, 33's are perfect. Just a suspension lift 35s are perfect, with both 36/37s are about perfect 38s with trimming.
-
or, do the body lift and when your 33's wear out do the 6" for a total of 9" and then?, just like smokin c?#*k
-
280 i can probebly get that money together pretty quickly, did summit make a leveling kit to, that would work with the body lift.
-
good luck and post it up when you get it, ive got a cold air and tuner for sale, that would help out, lol
-
-
thanks again for all the help. I will post pictures as soon as i can get the money together and order the parts. If i buy the lift keys do i need to get blocks for the rear or will the body lift and keys leave the truck level. And i already got a cold air intake but thanks.
-
if you want it level dont get blocks, but if you want it raked or its level now get them
-
Bodylift is a cheap shortcut to something you will eventually get tired of. On top of that they dont look as clean...save your money and do a suspension lift. I love my NTBD BDS kit.
-
So i found this kit that is just some keys and blocks for the rear, it looks like more than a leveling kit and looks like it might work as a 3 inch lift that i want. What do you guys think, it is either this or a body lift, i really want to do a 4 inch full lift but i just dont have the cash to do it right now. and i really want something that will last this summer.
Truxxx Lift Kits, Truxxx Suspension Lift Kit, Truxxx Truck Lift Kits
-
there is no, just keys, lift that should net you 3 inches. you would make out your whole front end bro. you want 4 inches of lift just go with 6. cause a 6 inch knuckle lift and 33s does look very good!!!
edit: don't do a body lift. personal exsperience(sp). its not worth it.
-
alright, i guess the question is how much lift do I need to fit 33s and still be practical for wheeling and daily driving.
-
The stock keys will give you the same lift, the upper a-arms have a limit. A 4" lift is probably about the same price as a 6", 33s not much less than 35s.
-
well can i run 33s on a stock truck or will it start to rub when i turn sharply.
alright so if i go with a lift kit here are the two i am going to pick from.
99-06 GM 1500 6" KNUCKLE KIT W/SHOCKS @ NTW
99-06 GM 1500 6" SPECIAL W/SHOCKS @ NTW
someone could take the time to tell me if one looks better than the other please do. the other option is to just wait and get the skyjacker kit for 1500.
-
The suspension speacil looks like the Super Lift.
*Little skid for diff.
I honestly liked that lift better than my SkyKlunker.
Just my $.02
-
listen to tanz and i hated my rough country. that was the biggest piece of sh!t. i know another guy, we had the same lift, he hated his with a passion too. he traded his in on a NNBS then lifted it with a pro comp lift. stay away from budget lift kits man. you'll regret your decision not to do it right the first time.
-
I don't know why anyone knocks body lifts. Besides I can see my manifolds in front fenders, and some sky in the backs, I LOVE my body lift. The frame doesn't show anymore then a stock HD truck or OBS truck. If you do it right there is NO problem.
This is the truck about 30 minutes into body lift (rear done)
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6480941_n.jpg
And this is the best pic I could find of the "gaps/manifold"
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4038234_n.jpg which a gap-guard kit will fix for $75 bucks (I just haven't had time)
I personally think it's easier to clean the truck off after mudding because there is room to get a hose between body/frame. Working on the engine/trans is easier because there is more room (tho I need a ladder now lol)
-
im not knocking body lifts they can just be a pain in the ass IMO
-
how hard was the body lift.
-
Body lifts arent hard at all. The bumpers suck though
-
O i see, The kit from summit comes with brackets for that, but is it still a paint to get it all to line up. and i just found out that i need to pay for college this month due to some mix ups. So i guess the body lift is all i can afford for now. Probebly when my 33 mud tires wear out i will upgrade for a 6 inch or 4inch full lift. i dont need a huge truck just room for 33s and later 35s.
-
"i dont need a huge truck just room for 33s and later 35s."
it never works that way, then 38s then 40s. lol
-
Yeah you are right, but i would like to think that i might be able to control the tire growth and upgrades.
-
Alright so i dont have the money for the 6 inch lift, but would a 3 inch body and 2 inch level kit work together and still be safe to drive around and still go mudding.

will 285/75/R16s fit on some stock chevy wheels. like the ones i have on my truck now.
