I guess nobody here has done that yet due to fuel mileage suffering so badly. Take a 4.8/5.3/6.0 and put a Radix or STS turbo on it and you have the same amount of torque and more HP and still get 17-18 mpg. Most of us pride ourselves with the fact that we have daily drivers that are fun to play with.
Gas mileage and weight is the reason why I have decided to go with an LS1/LS6 engine over everything else... when I can actually afford to do it

But i completly understand the MPG thing. So far my car's best highway MPG is 31 and best 1/4 time with a 1.89 60ft is 11.999@116.8 I Love telling people that i drive it everyday and it gets great MPG considering the power. around town high teens to low low 20's MPG.
that would be an interesting combo but i dont think an 80 would hold that amount of TQ for very long and the allison is very expensive to rebuild i beleve? not shure though there might also be clearince isshues with the allison in a 1/2 ton.
From what I hear a built 4L80 can handle in excess of 1200hp. I think parish pushed 800+ hp out of his 6.0 with 14.5lbs of boost on a stock 4L60, stock rear as well I think.

automatics arent that hard on rearends. I'm really not sure on the transmission stuff, but i do know that there are some very fast/powerful HOTROD diesel guys out there and most all of them that drag race with lots of mods are running autos. So there must be somebody out there somewhere that can build a bad to the bone trans to hold the power, as Jewmont3 pointed out.
I've wondered about an 8.1 swap into RC for awhile, but seems like everyone hops on the LS1 train. I myself would like to do a 6.0 swap in mine, or if they become available, one of those new LS7 7.0L.....that would rock
If I were to swap a big block into mine I would do a 720 or 620 hp 572. I would have to swap the LS1 back in at inspection time but it would be big block the rest of the time. The sad thing is I would be driving the Astro during the week to and from work, no fun.
I put a 8.1L in my 67 short bed if that counts.
the torque was amazing. I had a TH400, stock heavy duty torque converter, and 3.73 gears with eaton posi, and 295/50 R15s.
I was running a Do It Yourself fuel injection controller, megasquirt, controling fuel, and wasted spark ignition.
I installed a ZZ502 crate engine camshaft. The 8.1 responded very well to the camshaft except that I had intake valve to piston contact. A few weeks after the install 2 pistons fell apart.
The 8.1 is at the machine shop getting a sleeve in #6 hole and being bored .030.
pictures and other information on my website.

You mentioned running 11s on your website, is that with the 8.1 or the ol'355?
Glad to see a successful engine swap. Please post up any track results including 60ft and/or any dyno #s.
umm 8.1 = gas guzzler like whoa. i mean the whole point is practical daily drivers running 12 to 10 second quarters not a truck that gets 3.2 mpg highway haha sorry but the 6.0 or 7.0 ls7 is all anyone here could want i would think! :flipoff:

If wonder what kind of gas mileage an LS7 would get in a truck. Considering it's rated at 28 mpg in the Vette.
what gears are the vettes running? and do the new ones have D.O.D.?
I'm not sure about the gears. But I am sure the Vette does not have D.O.D.
