well i guess it was coming but at the 320,334 mile mar my 02 duramax finally had something break ( besides having to replace the injectors 4 times now :( which is not cheap). but i went to drive it to work and it wouldnt start then i put the charger on it and it fired up for a couple minutes, went to put it in reverse and it goes no where. feels like it doesnt engage into reverse at all. i cant be mad though i would say i got my moneys worth.
Time for a new truck? Sounds like your giving up on it... Lol
Put a tranny in it and go another 300k,its just gettin broke in.:spit:

It could be just something eletrical... That tranny looses reverse when the gear selector goes out
oh im not giving up on her, still a great truck. Now that they finally made a aftermarket injector for the first gen durmax i wont have to worry about the injectors going bad every 40,000 anymore. i havent even looked into the tranny problem yet, i dont have the time and i have so many projects going on. so until i get to it shell stay parked in the driveway.
Very doubtful it is an internal part on the Allison go bad. Check the NSBU (neutral safety back up switch) those can get corrosion and go bad, causing some issues. Congrats on getting it 320k though. The LB7's do have some injector issues. You should check and see if some LLY or LMM injectors woul work. Those have no issue with them.
The newer injectors use less voltage
so I dont think that would work.

ahaha when i saw that thread it did give me some motivation, at least i know i can pretty much run the truck forever. Bosch makes a set of injectors now that they say fixed the problem so im gonna try those and see how they work.
I was thinking the OEM injectors were now fixed (if you went and bought them new from the dealer "today") i can ask my friend who has a lb7 i know theres more options i just cant remember what they are. Also this is the best duramax forum out there IMO Diesel bombers is good too but its the "big three" so dosent always help.

Once replaced, the injectors on a 1 motor are OK. Not sure why you had four sets, possibly poor diagnosis.
I have only had one Allison out for repair and it was leaking.
I have replaced my share of gear select switches but that was common in the early 2000's and usually after snow/ice or deep mudding.
Thats what i was thinking on the injectors unless you bought a set of re-manufactured ones, i had a friend go through 3 sets before spending the money on the new oem ones from the dealer he has had 25k~ miles no problem with them
yes they were re manufactured ones each time, that kept going bad.
Where can you get the aftermarket injectors and how much are they? My dad has a 03 Dmax with 180k on it and the previous owner got 2 of the injectors replaced under warrenty before 100k, but now it's starting to smoke white and smell diesel'ly at an idle. We're thinking he has one thats staring to leak at idle since it still runs good and good fuel mileage and is not filling the oil pan with diesel.
get the NEW ones from the dealership. the previous owner should have had all 8 replaced idk why they weren't
The warranty is good till 200k on the injectors,but I dont know about the time limit.

The ones from the dealer are not actually new, they are remans but done right, not thrown together. If it only smokes after extended idle do two things.
1) Don't do extended idle
2) Buy more fuel 'cause it uses too much.
It just passed the 7 year mark on the build date. It doesn't have to idle long, a minute or two some times... and it comes and goes. Some times you come to a stop and a brief white cloud will pass the truck on the right side.Quote:
