Most of you may know but the GF is preggo. Need to get her a nice used car.
Found a 2009 Dodge Avenger with 32K miles for 11,900. Talked the dealer into new tires and giving us the 80K mile warranty for $400 instead of $800.
The car is clean and is a ''certified'' chrysler used unit. hahaha ''unit''
The bad, the car was a rental car.....Opinions asap!!!
Car is marked down from the original $14,500 since it has been on their lot for 122 days.
have it inspected cause the lower ball jts and a few other thing go wrong. tell them u will give them 11k for it final offer. other than that they are ok cars
id never buy a rental, i know how people like me drive them...
but if it has a good warranty with it then i guess it wouldnt be a huge deal

Make sure that it's a premium coverage warranty. By premium I mean, make sure it covers just about everything on the car. $400 for a warranty is way cheap, and the fact that $800 is the actual cost of it leads me to believe that it's a very basic warranty which won't cover near as much as you would think. And that certified sticker, that means absolutely nothing. I work at a dealer, and the techs put those stickers on but if the used car manager denies work that they may tell him the car needs the sticker stays on either way. If they won't let you take the car somewhere for inspection, they don't want you to see something. And lastley, it's a Chrysler! Ofcourse there is going to be something wrong with it!
I personally wouldn't buy a retired rental car. I'd say 90% of them have had body work done to them. I used to work at a body shop that had a Hertz rental office in it. We did all of the regions repairs too. Saw a TON of rental cars with damage. Not to mention what most of them looked like when they were returned, needed lots of cleaning.
Former rental is something to consider but it wouldnt disqualify a vehicle for me. How does the price stack up against Carmax, Kelley Bluebook, etc? If its a screaming deal and you've looked it over well, I'd still consider it. I'd skip the warranty. Those things are priced to make the warranty company money not you. Not worth the paper they are written on. If money is tight with the baby on the way, paying cash for something that will get you by beats a car payment any day.
I'll never drive another Chrysler. And I sure wouldn't drive a Chrysler that was a rental.
Honda Accord is consistently one of the most reliable cars, year after year. So is Toyota (recent problems aside).
Little tip: Go HERE and plug in any car you're considering. Their reviews are pretty spot-on.

dont go chrysler cars, they suck :sigh: their suv/truck lines are better. my neighbor owns a jeep cherokee that was a rental and hasnt had any problems with it. My vue was also a rental once (i know i know but the price was right) and it runs great. Plus the wife was very persistant lol. i would only consider specific cars if they were rental. you can find some good deals on better cars. and with a new kid, it is better to have the space of an suv. trust me

Honda hands down. Reliable, safe, decent mileage + longevity.
i work at a dodge dealership, with the exception of when they first came out, we have not seen many avengers in the shop. make sure that the car is caught up with all the recalls and rrt's
but IMO, you can't go wrong with a camry, accord, etc, etc
If you guys want to push on the Japanese stuff go to another site there are a ton of em! I don't care for them a bit! I've owned 5 Dodges and they all were nothing special but went form point A to B without any abnormal problems. Ball joints are a quick wear item for the FWDs but an easy fix and it doesn't stop them from going down the road.
