new audio setup

ok guys im gonna start a small build since i got my tax return, its something simple but different.

ok i started off with installing a radio i got and never used its a Panasonic CQ-C3305U, i installed in one of the cubby holes in my center console. i reinforced the trim/bezel with fiberglass resin on the backside, i also used bolts to the side of the radio cage and on the trim/bezel. i made it to where i have to unbolt the seats to take out the whole console to take out the radio, im making it harder for them to try and jack my stuff now. i always hated that the radio would just snap in too the dash, and was just too lazy to do something about it.:ugh2:

Now the rest of the setup is gonna be a carputer, i have had it for the longest time(2yrs) it was gonna go into my junked 240sx. i have i got a sr20 engine but never installed it, that is gonna be a project later down the road.

The Carputer is gonna be inside the center console, im just waiting on my 7in touch screen, here is the link to the screen.

Im also looking for new components for the front and also gonna cut out the rear doors and install 6.5 in speakers in the rear like Brett(lo-lyf) had suggested some time back thanks man :beerchug:

Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile Penryn 2.4Ghz
4 GB Ram
320 GB HD
Intel Graphics with GMA X3100/HDMI Output
DVD Player/Burner
Wi-Fi/Bluetooth
XP Pro (might run windows 7)

All looks good man, I have done a few like this where I added dvd players or screens in the bottom pocket.


Only issue is; the harder you make it to steal, the more they are going to mess up trying to steal it. Then you have a messed up radio, messed up dash, etc.
I'm the same way though, I make stuff almost impossible to take out without a lot of dis assembly.

Thanks bro yeah im the same way and a neat freak when it comes to wiring ,like to solder and heat shrink everything. i cut the hole on rear door already using a template i have for a 6.5 speaker, i had a test fitted a old Kicker RS and its mounting death is 2.5 and it cleared just fine. now just looking around for speakers front and rear kinda on a budget already, i got like 150 left maybe a bit more, do you got any recommendation?

Love this "carputer" idea, I really wanted to do this myself awhile back but funds never come around... Nice computer choice too. :)

I used the base model eclipse 6.5's in my white truck. I think 2.5" is the max mounting depth(there is not much room back there). I did one with some Diamond D3 coax's and had to space them 1/8", doing that caused the cone to hit the door panel so it had to be trimmed up. I know for a fact the Diamond D6 convertibles will fit and so do the eclipse without any modification. I think the Diamond D3 had a 2 3/8" depth but the magnet was bigger around and hit the door skin where the body line starts to curve up towards the window.

I'm gonna take a look into the d6 speakers

Precision Power PPI, I have the 6.5" components in my front doors. They sound spectacular, especially for the price. I picked them up new on ebay for $100. I'm gonna get the 5.25" components for my rear doors next. Those I believe are like $60 new on ebay.

yeah its finished already just had a big delay, due to the power supply i ordered being bad. it set me back a month, but ill get some good pics first thing tomorrow!

im running a small computer, with a touchscreen for the user interface. in using the aux in from the radio to to control the audio.

now for the screen its just like a small computer screen but its touch, so you use for finger to go thur the menus and stuff. Here is a link to the one i got it a double din, i swapped out my dash bezel for a 03+ bezel. The only thing i did was add wood shims to the sides to center it out and painted the wood black.

u can pick other screens but there is gonna be more fab work involved.

now for the audio part im running a head phone jack from the back of the pc, and converts over to rca's, now thats plugged into my radio thur the aux.

for power you can use a simple power inverter and just start up and shut down the pc your self, or buy a power supply which is pricey and a pain in the you know what to wire but it lets you start up and shut down with the ignition from the truck.

i ended up using the power inverter cause the computer i had involved, cuting and splicing and tapping into wiring off the motherboard. the pc i had was not ment for a mobile use, so they did not have a plug and play kit. Plus it was almost 300 spent on that power supply, i returned it after the one i got was dead, and also they lied to me telling me it was plug and play.

i want to do an other carputer on my tahoe i have its all stock but, ill be doing a bigger screen like this guy:

i would go with a touch screen thou, this guy has to use a keyboard with that pad for a mouse.

Which computer did you go with? I would want one that can do music, navigation, and web browsing.

this is the one i have Logic Supply - Leaders in Mini-ITX & Small Form Factor Solutions

its more pricey cause it comes with HDMI output, i would use this computer in my living room for entertainment use.

check out those links of the ones i send you and you can do everything you stated. For the navi you just need a gps antenna its about $30 bucks. For the web i use my cricket broadband modem, or if you got a smartphone or pda you can always tether the data from the phone to the pc, and use it as a modem.

you can do anything you can do on your home pc or laptop.

i want to get the ODBII to usb interface cable so i can see what the engine is doing.

and yeah my truck is dirty i have been working at a ranch with my dad

So there's no way to tune the audio on the computer? I don't have a full center console like that, I have a bench.

you can mute and raise the volume on the computer but the output is not enough to run it to the speakers or an amp.

if you want to run everything off the computer you have to buy an external sound card for the audio that has pre amps out to run to a 4 channel amp and a mono amp for subs

I have a 5 channel amp, that probably shouldn't matter though. Sorry for all the freakin' questions, this looks more like the route I would wanna go compared to getting a Kenwood DNX6140 double din touchscreen reciever.

yeah all you would need is that external sound card that has pre amp outputs for rca's. now i got a question for you now lol, are you gonna want fm/am radio or like sirius or xm?

am/fm, I don't need xm or sirius.
