Bought a new fuel filter for my truck today and I put it on the lift changed the oil rotated the tires and got to the fuel filter and I can't find the darn thing!!!:ugh2: First ext cab so maybe im just over looking it. Its my 04 ext cab in my sig. Thanks
Do you have the return system or an evap? I have an '06 and mine is an evap, meaning the only fuel filter is the one attacted to the pump's inlet inside the gas tank.
well I do not know. I guess its a evap there only two lines coming from the tank to the engine. So does that mean all its got is the sock/strainer on the bottom of the pump?
it might not have it if it is flex fuel. but if it does it should be by the trans cross member on the left side of the frame
nope no flex fuel and nope no filter there
Look at your fuel rails. If you have ONE line feeding the rails then you have the evap AKA returnless. And yes, that would mean you only have sock/strainer on the bottom of the pump.Quote:

You don't replace it, unless you do a new fuel pump.

Gotcha. Won't the filter/strainer get clogged over time?
As much as a truck with a fuel filter, but no one replaces those either. I wouldn't worry about a fuel filter. It's nice actually not to have to change one.Quote:

Yeah, it sucks that the fuel filter is inside the fuel pump bucket and to replace the filter you have to replace a nearly $500 fuel pump assembly if it gets dirty. I can't imagine what it would take to rig up a new filter in the old bucket.
I crawled around for about an hour under my 2006 looking for a fuel filter. Didnt help that the guy at the parts store sold me one, but cant really blame him I guess. Came back in the house, searched the forum and quickly figured out why I was having such a hard time :)

350k PLUS miles on my filterless pump in my GMC...who the hell needs a filter!
