Ok, this isn't about what type of oil you run. Its about 5w30 Mobil 1 in vettes.
Our trucks and vettes are LSX engines. But why in the vette do they say it is mandatory to run Mobil 1?
Same roller valve train right? If that's the case, shouldn't we all be using Mobil1 or some other full synthetic?
I may be wrong but I think mobil 1 is recommended for our trucks too. I know that is all that mine has ever had in it.

i can't run full synthetic cause by the time i got my truck it already had 85,xxx miles on it...so i run 50/50

15/50 Mobil1 here per my tuner. He knows a smidge about what works I guess.
5w30 Mobile 1 in my SSS since I've owned it.
5/50 Mobil 1 in the Camaro, and 10/40 on the truck.
I tried a few synthetic oils, same weight, always return to M1
The only guide I have for this decision is my engine oil temp gauge, Mobil 1 keeps it 20 degrees below the other synthetics on same conditions.
No wise guy, but if temp is lower, I assume, friction is lower, so will be wear out.
i switched to synthetic at 110k, no problems here at 150k...i have been using 0-30 mobil, its supposed to cover the 5-30 and 10-30 warrantys...i noticed a LOT less of the notorious gm chatter at cold starts with this oil over the standard 5-30 synthetic. I normally go 7500 miles on changes too, oil seems ok to me afterwards.
GM expects them to be beat on but the main thing is Corvette buyers expect for GM to expect them to use the stuff.
It's not just the Vette, anything with GXP or SS on it too - the idea is since there "high performance" they will be used as such, hence the better oil. But yeah Mobil 1 has made deals with a lot of companies. I've ran it, didn't notice enough difference to even care
the oil caps on the SSS says mobile uno on it!
Mobil 1 5w-30 since mine was new. No probs. That's what I recommend to all my customers with the new GM engines at my store.
man, yours isn't old enough to have problems yet. :lol: Mine is pretty old and getting close to 80 something on the clock. Still runs 60-80psi oil pressure. Also pretty clean after 3000 miles. I don't see any reason to not use it.Quote:

IMO--pretty ballsy to switch at that mileage. I can't tell you how many times motors have gone by the way-side just because of switching oil types. Unless you flush the motor and install a new oil pump, I would be weary on switch oil types at that mileage. But you are one of the lucky ones. :thumb:Quote:

I run full synthetic in mine all the time.. 120,000 miles and going!
The only reason to not run synthetic on a high mileage vehicle is because it's thinner than conventional oil for the same given weight. Over 100k, just switch to 10w-30 synthetic and you should be good. The oil doesnt cause any problems other than possibly leaking a bit, whereas the conventional would still be held back by the gaskets,etc etc. Mobil 1 in all my vehicles for the last decade, never had engine trouble in a single one. Also, I run heavier 10w-30 in the summer, 5w-30 in the winter. But most of you guys dont have a real winter like I do, so just use the heavier synth
what about the synthetic cokeing in turbos i run shell rotella 15-40 the shop i work at reccomends rotella to our customers with turbo mustangs so i started running it and have noticed that my oil has been cleaner since the first two oil changes my filter was very dirty now every 2500 miles i change the oil and it looks to be much cleaner
i swear ive hear rotella and delo have more cleaning products in them for the diesel use
