I am thinking about getting a catch can because I am tired of seeing all of that oil in the intake manifold. Are there any brands that are better than others or anything to watch out for? Does anyone have a good picture of the setup?

I have just the cheap ebay one. It comes with a hose clamp, and cheap bracket to mount it. It gets the job done. I would TRY to avoid ones with hoses that run from top-bottom. Mine has that and as soon as i start the truck oil kinda goes up the tube. Seems like it would make it easier to go back into the intake then if the can just had an in/out.
Make sure you mount it perfectly straight up and down, or you have to really let it get filled until oil comes out.
Overall, pretty simple. Mine is literally just strapped to my body lift ground extension, took about 10 minutes. The higher end kits for f-bodys/gto-s actually come with really nice brackets that bolt in above the a/c compressor.
DBRODS made a bracket for mine that uses the brake booster bolt and mine sits there. I'm about to change it up so it goes from one side of the intake manifold to the other
I can't find much information out there. Would a catch can be best or just a pair of valve cover breathers? There's no FI and it's just 4.8. I don't want that oily mess in the intake (or coming out of breather fiters, is that a problem?)
I'm n/a. I would say I get about 2 teaspoons worth of oil every 5,000 miles. i have 145,000 on the motor, but don't burn any oil.
I was going to get a breather for my filler tube, but don't want the smell/mess. Catch can seems like an all around better setup. For the $30, well worth it IMO, the stuff that comes out of there is GROSS.

run a small water/oil trap in between the lint that runs from pvc valve to intake,,youll be suprised how fast that thing will fill with oil.
do you guys think that running a catch can will help with carbon buildup in the combustion chamber and on the valves? What is the most significant benefit to these?
I've been doing A LOT of research on these lately and to answer your question, yes. There is a 15 page thread on tech that explains this for numerous different set ups (N/A & FI) and how to properly set them up. Basically, it provides a way to filter the PCV system so that there is not any oil and/or "trash" getting back into the intake. They can reduce wear on your engine by keeping it cleaner. For FI applications, it allows for a way to catch blow by without creating a mess.Quote:
