So I have a friend who's got a 5.3 for sale supposedly out of a 2007 truck. I'm not sure were to look on the motor to know this for sure it has 862 heads which all the info I could find was that they came on the 99-00 5.3. It has a fan which I thought 05 ups had electric fans. I pointed this out to him which he pointed out it also has electric tb. So I'm confused can someone please help?!!!!!! Thanks!
if its 07+ it will have 799 heads. if it has an electric TB it is a newer motor but if it has 862's its def not and 07 or newer. I dont know if the 4.8 came with 862's 07 and newer but i doubt it. Take this into consideration, if he insists its an 07 then he is lying or full of it. Who knows if its really a 5.3 anyway, you wont be able to tell. Sounds too fishy too me. Reason the motor was pulled in the first place?

it could be an 03-04 they had the DBW TB, clutch fans, an those years had 862s i think.
799/243 are the 07-09 heads. i have both sets.
if i was you id pass on it unless its for sale for 500 or less. just my .02 sir. good luck
I thought the 07-09 engines had an option of
285hp with the 862 heads or 325hp with 243 heads and slightly higher compression.
The 2007 year had three 5.3L motors offered. The 2007 Classic (still a NBS) had the 5.3L with either the L59 (flexfuel version) or the LM7. The 862/706s are on the 99 and up 4.8/5.3L motors. The only difference about the L59 motor was the injectors. 2005 and up motors had the factory electric fans and electric TB.Quote:

The ONLY truck that had 799 heads from the factory were the L33 H.O. 5.3L. There were only sold in the 2005-2007 Classic model year (VIN code "B") and came in extended cab 4WD trucks.

They started putting the efans on them in 05

My friend's 2002 5.3L Z71 has the 862 heads from the factory, FWIW.
