nbs cable upgrade

Since I've installed my UD pulley, I've had a problem with voltage spiking at idle. (especially with stereo or KCs on)

I upgraded to a 145 amp alternator, and already have a redtop optima. I'm going to upgrade the wiring tomorrow, and was wondering the best way to do it.

Should I run a new cable from alternator straight to the battery (I would use the unused top post on the optima) or to the red-plastic covered auxiliary post?

Are there any other cables I should upgrade? (ground, other power wires)

pics would be helpful of setups...THANKS!

I was more curious what kind of cable. Autozone has universal eyelet cables that are 4 gauge, wasn't sure if that was big enough. Wasn't sure if alt to red box or alt to battery is better.

Mine is alt to batt. Just do he big three upgrade. I used 4 awg but some people use 0 awg and i think george used welding cable.

ran 2 gauge from alt to + on battery, and the ground on the alt to the - on the battery.

Did not help AT ALL. My electric fans still drop the gauge to around 10 volts for 5-6 seconds, and it bounces between 12-14 with beats of my subs (running 2 10" kenwoods with a 750 watt profile amp, shouldn't pull THAT much)

I don't see where the ground cable goes to the frame...only cable I see is the thin braided strap bolted to the firewall.

Run a 0 awg from your + to the little red box. Then 0 awg from - to your block. And then another 0 awg - to your chasis. Worked for me

Do you have a relay on your fans. Mine id similar things until I wired a relay in.

Relay for each fan (camaro setup)

No capacitor.

frame gound i usually right under the crank pulley on the front, it hould connect to the crossmember

i ran 2/0 welding cable. stereo wire isnt designed for the ampacity and heat. Welding cable is much more durable and stronger insulation jacket. Plus the strands are different then the super flimsee stereo stuff

i have 2/0 from battery to redbox, i have 2/0 from battery to frame, i have 2/0 from motor to frame. I have 8 guage for alternator and have no issues what soever with a 102amp alternator. My battery cable goes from back by roll pan to front of truck.

i run EWP which draws alot of current constantly ,Efans, stereo and other electric add ons and i never drop below 14v

i used 2 gauge battery cables from autozone on top of factory stuff. I don't have a ground in the front...that might be the problem.

Big 3 actually works vs a capacitor thats adding another point of resistance... just my 2 cents.

Exactly. Caps are band-aids for big problems.
