Truck fuel system 1,000hp

I get asked all the time "how much to do a fuel system on my truck?"
Usually it's out reach because they cost so darn much.

I finished mine last year, and I'm selling it to a customer. I'm swapping to an LS style intake, vs the truck intake, so no need for this setup.

This setup is only the front half, you still need the big pump on the other end, fuel line, Y block, etc. Probably another $600.

Anyway, just wanted to share what you need if you do this.

Keep in mind, this setup will support over 1,000hp. I know some of you are thinking you don't have this setup and are pushing plenty of power, and it is possible, but this is how i do it.

casey, mic, jamest, etc, you guys know how this stuff adds up lol.

I have at least 1100.00 in Dual pumps, dual fuel pump holders. Three high flow fuel filters.. Dual -8 into each pump.... Y block feeding Each Rail and about 30 foot of -8 line and fittings .... Anyone needs parts !! I got plenty !!.... I bought all the stuff new.....

This is my Old stuff... its been off my truck since March or May.... I put about 1500 miles on this stuff .. Its a true 1000hp setup but I went with double the size on everything for possibly an E85 or Racegas fuel system now.. Its been in my store room inside my house since then.... I am sure my house may smell better if it were gone !!! :)

After seeing this it doesn't seem like my stock fuel system could keep up with my 500 or 600ish HP. But my af stay's good.

If you have Turbo and over 600HP... This is a smart move..... Most all ls1 motors are killed being lean... So i think a bit overkill on the fuel system is great insureance !!.... Make sure that overkill is on the FEED like... pump,lines and filters ....... Not just Fittings,Fuel rails and regulators....

5.3 punched to a 5.7, forged rods & pistons, about 9.5:1 i believe, 706 casting heads nothing done to them, 11 psi thru a t-70, 255 walbro, 48# injectors.

Hey...that was under the waist!!!!!

I was gonna only upgrade Fittings,Fuel rails and regulators!!!!! (Still debatting on the pump with Joda)

any suggestion on the pump-filter side?

I had around that same setup... when I talk about HP .. I mean rear wheel HP.... Do you have a camshaft?... I had near this setup and it was around 400 to the ground on a mustang dyno..

This wasnt ment to be a low blow.... its easy to spend ALOT on a fuel system... The pump,filters and Reg are still the heart to all fuel systems... All the nice pretty stuff cost the big money... You can upgrade the fittings,rails and regulators now... I have the other half of what you need sitting in my Truck right now ! .... :)

Just an 02-04 Z06 cam. It's a returnless style fuel system btw. I've talked to redheartbeat about it once and don't quote me but what I got out of it, it should be fine the way it sits power wise. I think i'm more worried about peace of mind and being safe.

what works for some doesnt always work for others.... pretty commom issue....lol...I have a pretty strong fuels system that resembles this one, and now doubling it to be safe. good info here.

So if i'm staying under 600 rwhp, are there some things you could suggest I do to stay at a safe level, but not having to spend so much money to build a full system? Remember I'm still returnless.

i would think that most 500rwhp and under set ups would be ok with stock rails, 60lb injectors and a single walbro 255 or equivalent. What additions could be added for the safety factor of not leaning out. OR what would be the best to change out for us 500 and under guys.

That is an Excelent question.......in my case I have always been afraid of the OEM Fuel Regulator......

yup.... never hurts to run an aftermarket intank pump... but yes.. that will take you a pretty long way...

Adding one more walbro and doing that cheap dual intake pump kit that a lot of fbodies do. Then some decent rails with good injectors.

Yeah I've got a single GS340 or GS341. Either one of those, can't remember.

If you put a set of 99 rails on your truck, it will have a regulator on it.
Ya, use the stock feed line, and install a new return fuel line, which you can probably dump to the filler neck.

Is just me, or this post was to be informative.

What I get so far is that no stock fuel system will hold 400whp for sure.

As soon as you change ur pump, or ur injectors by no means is stock.

Then, If you get away with minor modification, and live on the edge.....ur problem, for most people with some sense, been 25-30% on the upper safe side, is not spending, is investing.

The mayority of people here start with CAI and some minor mods, but the pursue for HP is endlees in our minds, so why not follow others Experiences, and built parts safelly were other did xperiments and fail !

We all fed other wallets on this hobbie, or do we fab our own raw material and parts?

BTW, all those parts and prices up there can be found at Jegs or any major speed shop. So anyone can choose whos wallet to fed !!!!

How do Fuel cells compare to OEM tanks, in performace comparo? is it woth the conversion?

Not stupid at all, but this question has many variables.
I'll just address the obvious ones, other can help out with the "what if" variables.

60's will support quite a bit of HP. if you add meth spray to the equation, it goes up even more. add a boost referenced regulator, it goes up even more, because the injectors will act larger than what they are with more fuel pressure.
A returnless or return style fuel rail system have different limits.
Regulating the fuel pressure at the rail is better than at the tank(returnless).
Limit on a 255? Well the variables above also pertain to this limit, but usually around 500-600rwhp. Just depends on the other parts of a fuel system as well.

Usually, a 255 and 60's will support about 600hp with no meth, maybe more or less, just depends.

Here's an example to go off of. 255 + 48lb lucas injectors. I ran out of pump and injector at 12psi on a 6L w/cam/turbo. Had to back it down to 525hp and injector duty cycle was still 100%.

I know some setups like to eat fuel more than others.

Here´s and update.

I used to have OE intank pump, oe fuel lines, inline Walbro 255HP feeding stock rails and FPR with 60 injectors.

At 8psi I was at 13.6 AFR and FP went 45psi at WOT. My injectors were at 99-102 cycle.

Heard like a zillion advices from changing to higher injectors, paralell pumps, changing all fuel lines and so on.

So I upgraded with the above parts listed here plus an intank Walbro 255LPH. Still have the OE feeding lines from the tank, inline walbro 255hp and the 60 injectors.

The Results were awesome. With the same tune, and FPR at 60psi, AFR was at 10 now. I raise the boost to 10psi, and still AFR at 10, and Injector cycle droped to 76%.

So I did a Last test, and raise boost to 12psi, still at 10AFR, but now Injector cycle jumped to 88%, still lower than before.

Now at last I can feel my truck Fast!!! Before at 8psi and almost WOT 12.5@1/4 mile

At 12psi boost with a bad tune feels so much faster, way faster. Now working on a better tune with lean AFR (11.5 target) and better timing.

I´m guessing now my Fuel System is good for 15psi of boost and probably over 800 whp easy.
