Hey Guys I am new to this site and haev been doing some reading about the LS1 swaps into the OBS.
I have a 1995 GMC ext.cab long box. I have a 9inch lift 35 inch tires, 4:56 gears a detriot locker, and a bunch of other stuff.
I have a 170k on it and I am just looking into the LS1 for a swap. My questions are about throttle cables, wiring for the gauges, mounting the motor in, and if my tranny will bolt up to the LS1 or not? any info would be great. Thanks and great site. :thumb:

I know there is alot of post about this but I wish someone had step by step or where I can get any info about this?
-
Throttle cable = LS1 Fbody
motor mounts = street and performance = www.hotrodlane.com
wiring harness = s & p and others
tranny = sell your's and buy an LS1 tranny with the motor, mainly needed for electronics and save your headaches for another day
Gauges = save all sensors from your original motor. 98 LS1 sensor will do the water temp signal. Screw it in the passenger side rear of head. If you have in-dash tachometer, BakerElectronix.com for a tachometer signal adapter, standard fuel gauge, tap the casting above oil filter and screw in your oil pressure gauge there.

Well thanks for the input. So I can use my stock gauges?...this sounds like it will be a good thing once the swap is done. Stock fuel pump have to be changed? any other little things I will have to deal with?
-
oh and what tranny should I gt if I don't get one with the motor?
-
You can use 100% of your stock gauges. Get a 4L65E if you can find one, otherwise any LS1 4L60E or a 4L60E out of a 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0L truck. If you plan on drag racing your truck you may want to buy a seriously built transmission or a 4L80E setup to run in with an LS1 setup. If you are set on reusing the trans you already have, call street and performance and they have a setup to use a standard old style transmission.

well i won't be drag racing it but i do alot of offroading and towing. I do have a 9 inch lift, three body and six suspension will this effect the swap?
-
It will make things fit a lot easier with the body lift in position. You'll have a lot more room to work on installing transmissions. You'll be able to get the the motor/trans bolts from below. I had Fabtech's 7" lift and 3" of body and 32s which gave me about 12" of lift from stock. I hated the way it drove. I had it that way for 2 years. Now it's going back in the weeds with a 4/6 drop.
-
Wow my truck drives awesome....I havn't had a problem with any suspension part. I don't really care for the body lift, but incases like this it sounds like it will help.
So the hardest part of this swap is the wiring?
-
Wiring is only difficult if you attempt it yourself and never have done it before. Leave wiring to the pros. You get what you pay for.
-
So there is a site I can get a harness done?.......I am not trying to drive any crazy with questions but i want to do this.
-
speartech, street & performance I don't know any others. Painless Wiring only wires a 98 pcm that I know of. I would call them and see if they have a 99 and newer version. Anyone else out the know of harness companies? Try searching past posts. Avoid Dynatech Motorsports like the plague.

Where can i get the bracket to move the a/c pump?.....I want to see how much that is going to cost?
-
Street and Performance, of course. No, I don't work for them, just love their work. You will need a Sanden 508 compressor for their brackets. Their kit is a bracket for the 508 compressor and two pulleys that replace your tensioner. They have an adjustable length bars for the top mount of the compressor to take up the slack.
