I have got two of the three bolts out. The last one is stuck. The head has started to get rounded from it not turning. Any ideas how to get a damage allen out in that tight space. Thanks.

If you have a air hammer with a chisel end on it. Basically catch it on the outside edge and give it a little bump, it will come loose.
jarring them works better than pulling hard. the impact from hitting the wrench with a hammer or heavy object will break it loose easier than hard pulling and be less likely to round the allen head out. also if you have enough room you can use visegrips on the outside of the bolt and the allenwrench in the middle to give more leverage.
sometimes if those tools arent available you can either use the round end of a ball peen hammer to mash the flared metal back into shape and then use the next size up allen wrench(or metric equivalent) and tap it in there with a hammer and it might just be enough to get it out.....but the air chisel would work the best :thumb:
+1 on what Jon said. I hated how mine HAD Allen headed bolts.
Do they have the 15mm outside and the Allen inside? Some are rounded outside with Allen inside....those suck. Remember they probably have Loc-tite on them so some properly placed heat might help but it's a tight place to use a torch.
Anytime I ever roll a motor over and see the allen style I immediatly go grab the air hammer, its not even worth the trouble to try with a allen. I broke that rule a few months back on Duckys and we rounded one off, LOL, so I retaught myself that lesson again...haha The air hammer takes less than 2 seconds to break one loose, then use the allen to take it out.
Yeah, Jon has the best solution in this case. I do not chisel them out as a rule but it will work. I use an Allen socket 3/8" drive on an impact. Do you know anyone with an air hammer?
I used an allen socket and an impact to get mine out as well.
You can do anything with an air hammer
Weld the wrench to the bolt!
Good idea, but welding it would only allow you to turn it about 1/4 turn...then your screwed.:sux2bu:
Mine had the allen heads too, but mine came out fairly easy, I had an allen wrench that was about 1ft long on the handle.
Just weld the inside of a gearwrench on it....:spit:
OK, still have got the last one out yet. It's been raining alot here. I have another question...What year trucks can I get a transmission from? The junkyard said only 2001s. What could is different? Mine is a 2001 4.8 regular cab 2wd.
physically, nothing is different. electrically, maybe a different plug or something, not sure on this, but should all be the same. i am running a camaro tranny in my truck and the only difference is the shaft coming out for the shifter is shorter and i had to rig the shift controller to work for my truck to be able to crank.
yep...main harness's are the same for 60/65/70e trannys, and any year from 99 to 06 will definately work...out of the trucks.
