no traction please help mustang ripped me

Raced a bolt on port and polised 04 mustang with 3.90s and 12.5 inch nitto drag radials from 40 to 120 dead even .then we tried a couple digs the mustang was lanching at 2000 no spin at all and quik pulls 2 cars i spin all the way through 1 then hooks im about half a link back by 80.My ques. is i need major traction for the street. i would go drag radials but no one makes the size i need .Any suggestions? cal tracs, replace gas tank with fuel cell over the axle,. i know the air pressure has alot to do with it and i was runnig 40 psi which is stupid high no im at 18 psi but still only slab 3/4 throttle and just blows the tire until second.

In your pic it looks like your truck is lowered, how is your pinion angle? yes caltracs help from what ive read but looking at the torque your making from the charger, it looks like u need to get some rims w/ DR's for whenever your gonna race. IMO

x2 check pinion angle and get a nice set of dr's and some vht

You will need at least as much tire as the Mustang has to hook on the street! Caltracs will help some but a better tire is needed!

+1 on the better tire and the caltracs. Also you could consider a more race inspired shock also it would prob be cheaper to relocate your battery to just behind your axle. Damnyankee (moze) did this and has a post about how to I believe if you do a search.

does any one have their gas tank relocated to the bed over the axle seems like i could use 100-200 pounds on the rear the batt might help but i need more .been lookin at QA1 IM pretty shure for rim size and my profile i have some of the grippest tires i could find 12/18/30in. mickey thomsons sr radials I DONT race at the track so gotta have street tires

The gas tank relocated may be more dangerous being if you ever had a wreak. I think between shocks, caltracs, setting your pinion angle with the relocated batt you should be fine

If you get on performance trucks do a search for REGENCY. I think it is regency's build thread. he is a local truck and has one plus battery mounted to frame under bed. Looks like a good setup. And it is a fast truck. I think Nelson done the tuning on it. I know they did when he first started modding the truck.

Run by HomeDepot and throw a couple day labors in bed before racing ..............

For a lot more money too. Look at the fastest guys around here, have they changed their fuel tank setup? The majority of them haven't.

Stick to the cal-tracks, pinion angle, and shocks.

Tru-trac... that one tire fire is not gonna get you off the line very well either!

I've got a 15GAL fuel cell where my spare tire used to be under the truck, battery is also under there tucked away. With the truck sitting on the scales made a pretty big difference percentage wise. However I havent had a chance to test anything out yet. Still have alot to do before shes ready for the street/track

I have a better idea to rip that mustang, get rid of that maggie and get a turbo

you guys in texas can have your turbos im not making a race truck .its just dd that wants to beat on street cars and trucks.got plenty of power just need i to hook and it will be great. im going with QA1 shocks . whats the pinon ag. sopossed to be? money aside nothing is cheap for these trucks.i think i want to see the results of justin inc thats what im thinking a 15 or 20 gal either in the bed where the spare tire gos let me know how it goes .to me 200 pounds under the driver seems like an overload of weight on that side no/other then the money seems like one a truck that extra 200 pound over the rear would even out insted of what 70/30 to maybe 60/40 the closer you get to 50/50 my truck starts to handle like a vette

Ah I am just messing around. I think the fuel cell in the rear would be a great idea. I plan on doing that when I get it bagged.

get some 18" wheels and run a 305/45-18 nitto 555r out back. set the pinion angle to -3 or -4* and run a stiff shock. i run the rancho 9000x 9 way adjustables. you can stiffen and soften them up.

no need for caltracs unless you start getting wheel hop problems.

if you really want some awesome street traction put on some 16" wheels and run a 28x10.5 mickey thompson et street.

check the sig got 18s and had nitto 305/55/18 4o4s the mickey thompson sportsmen sr radial at 18 psi hook way better. but i think i cracked my rear baer 14 inch rotor so i gotta run the stock solid rotor back on but the good news is i can fit some 16s and et streets or slicks

the 555r is a totally different tire than the 404...the 555r is a drag radial, made for dry traction. they blow the 404 out of the water.

or you can go to the mickey thompson drag radial which is what im using next.

You might also wanna consider getting a 2.8 pulley. That would make things WAAAAAY more interesting... :burnrub:

haha I was behind this guy when he street raced the mustang. It was nuts. The truck left tons of rubber down. I went for a ride in that stang and it pulls pretty good.

He just got it dyno tuned and its putting down 300 hp and tq.

what kind and size of rims are you running in the back? I have the same kinda traction problem and need a bigger wheel so i can run the Nitto 555R in the back

18 x10 billet speciaties and 30 x18x12 mickey thompsons sr radial 18 psi

Nice i see those wheels aint cheap either....... Try the Nitto drag radials next the have a much softer compound rubber....

they dont make nitto drag radials that are to my specs the stance is perfect and they dont do 30 inch for 18 inch rim my fronts are 28.8 inchs .so im going the route of a fuel cell over the rear should solve my problem or 16s and full slick .im pretty sure for the size i want i have the stickyest i could find any suggestens?

i had nitto 404 305/55/18 and they had the stance perfect 31.2 inchs tall the 305/45/18 is only 28.8 inchs thats 2.4in shorter the micky is one of the only ones in the middle

IF you run a 16 inch slick the biggest tire you can get is a 28" tall tire. Its been driving me nuts looking for a good tire combo myself. IF those Mickeys are not doing it and your worried about stance then you might be S.O.L. If you want a 30" tall slick then you got to get it in a 15" rim DIA........

will a 15 fit over rear disc if so ill go 15s but you would think in this era of big rims some one would make something close dang

I think you have to grind off a bit of the caliper.

if you want traction on the street you need a 4x4, otherwise do what i do and just accept it. unless you think its practical to drive around on street slicks in a pickup truck all the time.
