Finally got the new truck

well its been a while since iv been on here. Last time i was here i was moaning about crashing my 04 silvy. Light front end collision, yet deemed totaled. Gave me a great opportunity to get into something fresh. I came across a 05 GMC RCSB RST 4.8 5speed. Got a smoking deal on it with low miles. Im still taken back by it. I was looking for some ideas here. Cosmetically and Performance wise. I do have some parts i have lying around that i could use on this one as well. As follows: LS6 ported and polished heads assembled with Patriot .660 springs ti seats etc. Cam in sig, i was going to use it in another motor but maybe this one instead. I was thinking about picking up an ls1 shortblock and throwing my parts at it with a fast 90/90 and dropping it in. I wanna know what everyone thinks of my idea. I want a reliable stout motor. Also appearance wise im thinking of switching to flat black stripes. Give me some good ideas here guys! Thanks a bunch! ps. does anyone make a short throw shifter for this thing? or something to make it a tighter pattern?

I'd avoid flat black. Matte would look very cool/unique tho.

Not sure on the shifter. I'd imagine hurst/slp would be places too look. Perhaps something off old 5spd camaro?

Hey get some side pictures of it, it already looks sweet. But as far as short throw, I guess talk to Quik because he has that 5spd that hes putting a lot of power through

good looking truck. you do know that the five speed isn't made for racing, don't you?

Quik has a T56 but may have shifter suggestions from when the truck had the NVG.

Automatics win races!

You have the same trans I have NVG3500, I got an SLP shift handle that has no bushing in the bottom (stock has one to eliminate noise) but with this handle it doesn't bind like the stocker can. And I've searched and there's no short throw shifters made. But if you want to stay standard to might want to look into a T-56 or a TKO because that 3500 isn't gonna last with some decent power.

Hurst makes a STS for the NV3500. actually they stopped production a few months ago, but they can be found. if you're wanting to race with an NV3500, though, you'll want the M50 from the S10 - it has closer gear ratios. you'll also wanna do the drill mod on the clutch line & (if money allows) replace the master cylinder with one actually made of metal

i think it's fun when I win races lol.. but seriously standards are fun. My girlfriend has a 350z M6 and it's fun as hell to drive. I can't imagine having a std truck in traffic though.

honestly i know autos are practically impossible to match these days but honestly go for a ride in an auto with 300-350 hp and then take a rip in a standard with the same and you can have a hell of a lot more fun in a manual. i only say 300-350 cuz you guys pushing 4-5-6 hundred doesnt really matter because you pretty much destroy tires regardless of the speed or gear lol. just wish i could be as consistant with a manual as some of these awesome autos that are built. but hey at least im not replacing my t-56 every other week :spit: gl to all you 4l60e guys out there from all the posts i read im not jealous that i dont have one LOL.

Oh yeah std's are real fun, just not smoethign I could deal with everyday. I had a s10 with a 2.2l and that was fun, but only bc it was such a short throw

Look at Mic's truck for ideas. I think it started out the same.

I wouldnt go with black stripes..... maybe a dark grey stripe with the black. Be mean looking. And the motor build you got in mind sounds great. But Like stated a t56 may be in your future

Your motor, heads, and cam idea sounds fine--but there is NO WAY that NV3500 is gunna hold up. Go ahead and plan for a T56 swap with an upgraded clutch (cough cough LS7 cough) :spit:

yea i kinda figured the 5 speed wouldnt last that long. but hey when it goes, it goes. i think the t56 would be awesome but they arent cheap. I waxed the red stripes and they dont look that bad now. Im just waiting on funds now. I def wanna put an all aluminum ls1 in it with my setup. A T56 and clutch when funds are good. The thing is actually really easy to drive. You would be very suprised and handles sooo nice! In traffic it isnt as bad as you would think. The thing is an attention getter. Chicks love it! ok so heres the debate now, should i throw my heads and cam on the mighty 4.8 and run it till i can afford to buy a new tranny and shortblock? The stainless longtubes will be here thursday so the shorties go up for sale and im thinking about headers to an x pipe to either spintech mufflers or magnaflows and out the side before the rear tires on both sides. This thing is def faster than my 4.8 auto... for those who were wondering. ill post pics when i can get my hands on a camera that works. yea the one on my phone doesnt work either.

interior is black leather with gray inserts and red stitching. embroidered red regency in the headrests

So put a turbo on that 4.8l and let it rock!

if i could find a good kit and at a killer price id be all over it... but they are far and few between plus is a DD. Kinda want to stay all motor for the moment. thinking of just throwing what i have at the 4.8 with a tune and see what she does.... should i get the heads milled at all to bump compression up? maybe worth a few extra ponies?

Take the stick out of the tranny and move the pivate point. A little cutting, a little welding and you can make the throw as short as you like.

flat or (matte) pretty much the same thing would look good, i hink the color youre wanting is called satin aka hot rod black.

yea i mean the thing looks nice the way it is. I wanna throw some more power at it. has anyone put a set of 243's on a 4.8 and what the gains were and would it be worth to shave the heads and bump and the compression?

it ain't bad at all. actually, for the month my truck's been dead, i've been driving my brother's 94 suburban & my left foot starts spazzing out not having anything to do. i honestly don't know what to do with it.

ps - what flywheel are you using on your 5.3? i'm fixing to put one in my truck & was told the 4.8 flywheel bolts right on.

the nv3500 is only rated for 340lb-ft, not that they didn't use them with the s/c joe gibbs trucks, but just sayin...

very true t-56's are not cheap. i paid 1350 for my used t-56 with 56k miles. then another 400 for the ls7 clutch kit. anoth 120 for an upgraded slave cyliner, 120 for a new drive shaft, $20 for a pilot bearing, $1.36 a peice for the flywheel bolts, 125 for a hurst short throw shifter, and 4 quarts of tranny fluid and honestly id spend every single penny again, its the funnest tranny ive ever shifted, super close shifts really small throws and great gearing for all speeds and im running 4:56's. you wont regret it PLUS if you were an auto itd cost just as much for a built 60e anyhow. good luck, message me with any questions and hopefully i can help you out.

alright when winter time rolls around ill be bothering you everyday! little update tho, got my longtube tubes on with the y-pipe. Went in perfect. No engine lights and the sensors were the right length, and it sounds reallll baaad. Also Put in my new SLP shifter and what a difference! makes everything feel sooo much better. 3rd is still a problem child every now and then but what are ya gonna do. I decided to put what i have on the truck and run it til winter. So as soon as i get some head gaskets, bolts, pushrods, and a tune she will be a new animal. Im gonna run what i have til it breaks then upgrade. Sooner or later ill get a new camera and show ya'll whats goin on. Anyone have any estimated #'s for me with the new setup?

if you don't mind, how much was your shifter & where'd you get it?

as for the 2-3 shift, the way to fix that is by doing the drill mod. i'm definitely gonna gonna do that while my engine's out & everything's easily accessible.

it was $20 from SLP. its just the shifter shaft and ball. but it feels better to me. either that or its in my hand. But def worth the money. its a nice peice!

yeup, im gonna run that cam. its plenty big for a 4.8 haha. Quick used a simliar cam in his 4.8 with a turbo and got good results. So im gonna try some heads and the cam and see how it works. I plan on throwing a supercharger on it with moderate boost when i save some ching a ling. I know putting that cam in a 4.8 is rediculous, but thats why im gonna do it:beerchug:
