I am debating on this, it seems to get the milage and power it seems like you go diesel?
I love the way my friends 6.0 ran and it was plenty fast and all. Its just i am debating witch way do I go?
They both seem fast and powerful!

well diesel trucks cost alot up front... and gas cost alot to make fast as modded diesels... its all in what you like... i like my diesel for towing.... but i love my black truck for the real power and fun. but i will prolly be doing a TT 6.0 tow truck soon as Allen gets the 80e to 07+ trucks figured out....lol
Depends, I love quick diesels but have no reason to actually own a diesel. Having one just to cruise around town, blow smoke in people's faces to me is pointless. Gotta put the suckers to work
If you dont have a use for a diesel it doesnt really make a whole lot of economical sense to get one. I have one because I tow big trailers, if I didnt Id probably have ccsb z71 vmax.
depends how much it costs up front. if you can get one cheap and you can accept that you probably will never have the money to support anything over 500rwhp then diesels good. fuel mileage will be much better and up to around 500hp performance is going to be cheaper but like i said, it depends on the upfront cost. if you need a newer lower mileage truck the price difference probably wont be worth it.
if you want a dedicated go fast rig, definitely go gas - cheaper and easier.
i like having a high 13 second truck that gets 17-18 city and 22+ highway mpg with only around a grand invested in performance parts. good sensible daily driver imo. gassers have there benefits as well, such as easier/ cheaper maintenance (but don't get too carried away its not as big a deal as people make it seem) among others, and im sure everyone will tell you about it.
BTW - you should join a diesel forum as well, your only going to get one side of the story here, that's just how it is and it will be the same on a diesel forum.
If you tow more than 3000 pounds more than half the time and you have the extra cash get a diesel. Remeber the mileage is better and the fuel costs more. Maintenance is more too. Repairs are more too.
If you don't tow a lot get a gas engine. Beware 6.0 2500's get really bad mileage unloaded.
fuel prices depend on location, diesel is cheaper then gas around me. maintenance cost isn't a deal breaker unless you cant do it yourself, allot of my buddies with gassers actually pay more for an oil change then me.
i dont tow anything - ever. at 8k for my truck, around a grand in go fast goodies, good fuel mileage, good power, i cant see how i went wrong. basically what im saying is dont rule it out just because you don't tow.
another factor... you mentioned go fast parts... if you blow a gasser... you can pick up a junk yard motor for less than a grand most of the time... cant touch a decent dmax motor for less than about what you paid for your truck...:twocents:
A new engine is $13K in the crate. Try to find a used Allison with less than 100K miles for less than $2K. Brake rotors are $400 each. It goes on and on. I'd pay someone else to change my gas oil for $25 before I spent $35 to do it myself.
lol... whatever guys, diesels suck and gas is better. if i say anything you guys will have a comeback for it.
we could argue this all day, its just not worth my time.
the best justification...Whatever...
lol, do you want us to just agree and say "your right".....I own both, and have for a long time. You cant tell me its even close on price gas vs diesel.... 30k for gas truck, 40k for diesel new... sure u can find a used one...then maint.. if you service your own or pay someone to do it.... Its a lot more for diesel.. at least twice as much... fuel filter, that needs to be changed twice as much as gas... $40 3-4 times a year vs $7 once every 1-2 years....then 10 ply tires...on and on...lol... Its not even close.... so why are you trying to say it is?
blah, blah, blah
maintenance for my truck has been cheap. and i surely have less money in my rig then 90% of this forum does on there gas rigs. i have said it before, if your gonna buy a new truck, then diesel is a rip off. if fuel filters are your biggest concern you really aren't proving a whole lot, the difference in fuel mileage more then makes up for it. its a stupid argument, it depends so much on how you do things and how much you pay in the first place.
turbomic - you obviously haven't done either your gas truck or you diesel truck on any kind of budget so were talking apples and oranges here.
lol, your right..... its cheaper to buy 10 qts of oil than 6 qts..... and when diesel was over $5 a gallon.... it was costing me $100 every fill up...lol... what kind of budget we talking about....lol....your getting the wrong idea here... I love my diesel for pulling.... I ran 454s and then bought an 8100 in 01 when they came out....I put 150k - 175k a year on my diesels...I know the advantages of them....but mileage is not enough to make up for the added cost of maint alone..... Not to mention the up front cost of the truck... Its been proven time and again... Diesel power did a huge write up on it a while back.... it would take like 20 years of the mileage benefit to over come the added cost of the diesel....lol.....im sure you will never agree with this..... i know your truck is used, if you got it for 8k.... then you could have got the same truck with a gas for 5k......
I love both my trucks diesel and gas, yes the DMAX is way more expensive if you blow it up but if you do everything right they will last a long time (much stronger than the gas motor) also the allison blow it up buy a stage 2 or 3 kit from ats and build it yourself (yes they are very easy trans) if ur not that mechanically inclined they idk what to tell you besides you are about to spend some money on a built trans. I would suggest to go test drive one of each go from there
looooooove diesels
go diesel
Diesels are for plowin the fields around here .You guys drive tractors on the street ha ha ha .??Both fuels are on there way out anyway right??? GO ELECTRIC
220v FTW!
diesels are good for diesel mecahanics :dancenana:
...keep buying them and breakin em yall are gonna make me rich!!!
they are awesome for pulling and the torque that some of the new ones can put out is ungodly but toe to toe factoring in intial cost and matainence and parts gasoline is the way to go FTW!! unless you do like Mic said and keep it for 20+ yrs. . . .just my :twocents:
I bet people on diesel forums don't like gas engines.
most popular diesel guy saying ''real engines don't have spark plugs''
Check out my avatar and user title on PT:LOL:
Ive been down both roads and I love my diesel because I need it to tow and I like a decently quick vehicle too. It needs a good trans to be as quick as I want it to be, just havent decided if Im going to keep it for sure or get an LMM dually.
If you want to run mid 12s and last 300K then diesel is the winner, anything faster than that and a gas motorized vehicle makes more sense quickly.
Right now diesel is 40 cents cheaper than premium so the added mileage and cost in fuel could add up quick but who the hell knows how long the prices will stay that way.:(
btw my oil (delvac) cost less then say Valvoline max life, mobile 1 synthetic, or just about any good gas oil. that's why my oil change is cheaper. and if i had gotten a gasser for 5k i would have easily sunk 4k into mods to get it to where my truck is, and then id be getting much worse mileage.
you guys need to realize they both have there advantages and disadvantages, its as if your trying to say diesels are no good for anything but towing. which i think is absurd.
never said that..... I race my truck pretty often....and my black truck probably gets the same mileage as my diesel cruising.... But my diesel is the heavy hauler.... I like, and race both... I was speaking on your point that gas vs diesel cost the same.... If you like to race diesels come on down some time. I will put the big heavy crew cab up against your Single cab.:thumb:
oh im pretty sure id loose to your dmax, i don't know whats done to it but somehow im sure its out of my league lol.
just by a little bit lol, its all about how u spend ur money to yall have 2 totaly diff trucks Hot-Dog u bought a older base truck and have been squeezing as much power as u can out of it for as little as possible as for mic new truck plus lots of new parts, do like both of ur Diesel's though just wish i could get mine goin more :) got a good tune but thats about it
I'm sure everyone has a different way of getting it done. For me it is Turbo/Gas. For others they need towing hauling loads ect. You can compare gas to diesel all day and both can be made fast. Just think what a gas would be like built like a diesel. Just think what a diesel would be like if all the parts were still strong but lighter.

my diesel is listed in my garage, its a fun truck for sure. Most all my toys are in my garage section with most of the mods done to them. I dont mind sharing what i do. i dont hide, i think we all get faster by helping each other out on what works.
Mic just wondering why not HP tuners or EFI live?
i dont trust myself tuning....lol.... the ppe is proven and is a great tuner. I dont want to be liable for blowing up my dd...lol..
yea, you gotta have a good bit of time on your hands to figure out custom tuning. its not hard, just takes time. whats the dmax run mic?
Someone said an 01 DMax with $9K total spent on it would outrun an 01 RCSB V8 with $4K of mods?
This I have to see.
just depends on the type of race your talking about.... an 01 with 9k would be super deep 11s if not 10s and still fairly reliable....i think for 4k on a gasser you might be able to get there.... but it would all be big spray.... and doubt the tranny that would be needed to take it to the 10s would fit in the budget....and then i dont see the 4k package living very long.
i know people will argue all sorts of variables....i think the competition would be more fair for a 9k gasser to keep up with a 4k diesel... being diesel is already FI.... think that would be much more interesting....
honestly, i think all the variables we (me) are comparing is getting kind of stupid. you cant really directly compare these kinds of things i guess.
man, i dream of a 5-8 psi launch... 4x4 must be nice, especially on the street.
ya, i can build 20 psi if i want... its real nice on the street... no one will race me from a dig anymore.... lol...
what are you using the truck for?
