new cam...trouble starting

Got the new cam in about a week ago and it threw a code-P0343 camshaft position sensor high input. i just figured it would work itself out so i didn't worry about it at first but now its really getting on my nerves. i put a new sensor in and re checked all the connections to the sensor, pcm, etc. i can't seem to figure out what the problem is:argg:. the only thing i can figure that would be wrong is the ring on the back of the cam that the sensor reads is burred or something.. what do you quys think? has anyone else had this problem???

ive always wondered if you got a huge gob of assembly lube on the timeing ring (or what ever that sensory marker on the back of the cam is) if it would throw this code/have this problem

did you get an ls2 cam by chance? Is it an LS6 regrind? Pull the cam sensor out and look for the cam timing ring.

its a '01 ls6 zo6 cam it had 1500 miles on it when i put it in

get an ohm meter and check for complete circuitry to the pcm from the cam pickup sensor. Also look for the sensor ring on the cam down the cam sensor hole.

well i looked down in the hole and didn't see the reluctor wheel that the sensor reads off of..but i coun't tell 100% cause it was kinda hard to see in the hole. does the ls6 have the cam sensor where the cam gear is or is it like the 5.3 where its behind the intake?

ls6 uses the rear pickup location at the back of the intake manifold just like the 5.3 does. sounds like you got an ls2 cam instead of an ls6.

yea i got it from mark shaner he said it only had around 1500 miles or so on it. well looks like i'll be tearin the motor back apart..thanks guys

ohm out the wires to the pcm from the sensor, try your other pcm to make sure it's not the pcm.
is this why your truck isn't running as strong as you want or running bad, that would explain it if so

it was an '06 z06 cam. the o1 and the 06 are basically the same in specs other than one (01 cam) has the ring on the back of the cam and the other (06 cam) doesn't

Yeah the 06 is a completely different engine. BTW, the 01 cam is a one year only as it changed in 02.

hmm didn't know that. i was just goin off of what someone had told me. well either way i tore it back apart and put a different cam back in it lol

or you could get a LS2 front cover and extend your wires to the front to the front sensor location, and if you do this you must switch wires A and C on the plug.. just a thought if you really wanted this cam..
