I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me which set of exhaust manifolds would be the narrowest setup, width wise? I have a stock LQ9 out of a 04 HD and am literally stuffing it into a Toyota Tacoma and the flanges at the end of the manifold just barely clear the frame and I would like to gain some additional clearence. Any info or leads to a manifold or headers that would help me out is greatly appreciated. I will try to post a picture of where its sitting at soon.:help:
98 fbody manifolds tuck really tight against the block.
Make sure you really have an LQ9 if you care. The SSR manifolds are kinda tight too but probably hard to get.

It has LQ9 cast on the back of the block and came out of a 2500 HD. And I did'nt see any valve reliefs cut in the piston when I pulled the plugs, but it was pretty hard to see much in there.:newbie:Quote:

Well its definitely an LQ9, I am hoping to have a new harness put together by the weekend and I should have the fuel lines run by then as well. I did get the engine and tranny mounts knocked out this weekend, but have not been able to locate any f-body manifolds for a reasonable price. The junkyards here in Phoenix are crazy they want $350 for used manifolds! The headers I have measured are just as wide as the manifold so I may be doing something really crazy if I cant find anything narrower than what I have. no stock piston has reliefs in it. ive had 2 LQ9s and neither say LQ9 on them.Quote:

Well I got a few things done on the LQ4, finished routing the fuel lines, replaced the plugs and wires, on plug had cracked porcelain and two wires were missing. I also got the flexpate mounted and torqued the F-body oilpan down. I will be picking up the custom harness on saturday and hopefully test firing the engine. Does anyone have any leads on some F-body exhaust manifolds? I have a set of stock headers off my 5.3. Not sure if they will help at all.
I think the only reason everyones letting you know what ya have bud ,is theyres 45 hp difference in the 2 motors and noone would want to see you let down with what you have.lq4 is a great motor thats what i have and love it.I bought mine for forced induction tho.least you know you can through a turbo on it.good luck ,looking cool.

That would be sweet, Ill have to ship I guess as I wont be going that far east just let me know how you want to do that, im currently calling all the speed shops here in town trying to find the manifolds but still no luck. And I am building the truck for class 1450, or 1500 for BITD, probably will only run sportsmans class since every little thing on the truck is so damn expensive except for the engine. It will be at the dunes A LOT while working out the bugs this fall.Quote:

Well I found some f-body headers that look promising on E-bay for 180, supposedly all 304ss construction, not the best for headers, but for that price... So has anyone on here seen them or installed them or know anyone that has. Oh yeah, got my wiring harness in from Sand and Street performance plugged it in and fired right up couldnt be happier with the harness and the price was WAY CHEAPER than anything else Ive seen advertized. When I get the engine back in and the firewall finished Ill take pictures.:naughty:
Well I got the headers pretty damn nice for the price, too bad I had to cut off all the emissions bs and weld the holes back up since I am not willing to take the time to polish them back again. Ive been working on the truck a little the past couple of nights and am making progress on the firewall. I got all the steel patches 90% done lack a little welding yet, and am about 40% done with the removable panels.

this is actually incorrect. there is a 45 hp RATING difference but that is because they rate the LQ9 at like 5500 rpm and the LQ4 at like 4500 rpm. there is actually only a 20 horse difference when they are peaking in their upper rpm ranges in total stock form.Quote:
