Will this cam work in my truck?

I bought a cam from my buddy that had it in his LS1 camaro and just want to make sure it will work for what my plans for my truck are. I only gave $50 for it so if it won't, no biggie. The specs are 228/224 on a 112 lsa and .598 lift.

Truck: 04 RCSB. 5.3. 2/4 drop on 295/40/20's. Stock rear end.

Mod plans are:
K&N cold air already on it
P&P stock heads (anyone have other recomendations?)
Transgo HD2 & vette servo (in garage, not installed yet)
Full exhaust including headers
Nelson tune
Valve springs & hardened push rods
Higher Stall....not sure what yet. Will do a little towing (small trailer with 2 race bikes)
Bigger trans cooler.

Other then that, that should be it for now. Anything else I need or should do if this cam will work? No plans for any forced induction.

I'm learning these trucks slowly but surely. Came from the Ford world and sold my 01 Lightning about a year ago and have been driving a 4cly ranger since. Bit of a change hehehe :spit:

You need 4.10+ gears and a 3400-3600 stall for that plus a lot of little things.

Oops, forgot to mention a stall :) What are some of the little things? Prob stick with the 3:73's for now.

I was hoping the 4L60 with trango and servo would hold up for a bit. 41k miles on it. Think the trans won't last long?

It all depends on how you drive it.

I hear ya. It's more of a weekend warrior and will be my tow vehicle to trackdays. The Ranger get's most of the miles on it for everyday driving :)

The trans should hold for a while.
Get a good trans cooler with the converter.

The cam will work just fine, if that's how you intend on using the truck.
It's all preference when it comes to cams. I think a 230 in a truck is too big, but the next guy thinks it's just right.
But to answer your question, yes, the cam will work and run strong on the topend.

Tru Cool 40k trans cooler and Circle D for the converter. FTW

Will I lose any lower to mid range with that cam or will it be the same?

You will lose low end.

Is it worth P&P the stock heads or just getting some other ones? Keep in mind, I'm not made of money, but don't want to waste time with stock ones if it's not worth it :)

You'll gain upper mid range and top end with that cam.
Get a 3600 converter in there and you won't have to worry about lowend because the rpms will just right to midrange.

I'd suggest at least 3.73 gears for the setup as well.

go ahead and get your hands on some ls6 heads or ls1 heads and have them p&p and shaved down to like 0.005 so you wont drop any compression sens your lookin at a top end power band them heads should help more than the stock 5.3 heads may wont to swap the intake to a ls1 or 6 or a fast intake
