Hey guys, can anyone let me know what the gear ratios are for the 80E , also a side by side of the 60E would be nice?
I'm installing an 80E real soon and I need to decide on my gear ratio.
thanks,
allen

ok 4l60e ------------- 4l80e
1st-3.059:1 --------- 2.482:1
2nd-1.625:1--------- 1.482:1
3rd-1.000:1 --------- 1.000:1
4th-0.696:1 --------- 0.750:1
hows that allen lol
hmm, i was thinking 3.08's for the 60E, so now i might go with some 3.42's.
i think the turbo will like that,
allen
yap they sure will now all we have to do is put your 4.10 in mine and my 3.42 in yours
The turbo needs a good load to push against...so 3.42:1 may work well but a 3.55:1 would perhaps be better due to the taller truck tires. Buick GN's came with a 200-4R with a 2.74:1 1st gear and 3.42:1 gears.
can't you get a 4l80e w a lower 1st gear?
Yup sure can, it's about $500 tho!Quote:

I read that apparently the '02+ 4L80Es have 5 pinion planets also...
what does this mean? explain please.Quote:

Basically inside the tranny there's this big ass gear thingee...called a planetary gear set. Some have one like the Ford AOD others have two like the 4L60E and some have 3 like the Allison 1000!Quote:

Looks like that.
Anyway... with more pinions, it can distribute torque loads over more gears thus upping the torque capacity. Ford went from 4 pinion planets in the E4OD to 6 in the 4R100 when it was updated. The E4OD/4R100 is like the 4L80E.
But i read that in '02 GM went to 5 pinion planets in the 4L80E somewhere...that means they are stronger. But all '99+ 4L80E's have other improvments also.
thanks hitman, nothing but good news for me :thumb:
Transmission Ratios 1st Gear 2nd Gear 3rd Gear 4th Gear OD
Turbo 350 2.52 1.52 1 N/A
Turbo 400 2.48 1.48 1 N/A
200- 4R 2.74 1.57 1 0.67
700R4 / 4L60 /4L60E 3.06 1.63 1 0.7
4L80E 2.48 1.48 1 0.75
How's that...Zed
Sure not a problem :devil:Quote:

Isn't that what the current 4L85E is?Quote:

Yes, but it hasn't been called that anywhere that I've read about. Ford's beefin' up the ol' 4R70W to a 4R75W here also from what I recall.Quote:

Distributing torque loads more evenly seem to be smarter and smarter lol
