The filter has been turned off in an attempt to get people to quit using **** to insinuate cursing and just post it. If someone posts swear words they will be dealt with because its a violation of the site rules. It was getting out of control so something had to be done. It seemed to be a contest to see who could put the most * characters or mis-spell words to hide them from the filter lately.
There are other words you can use instead of curse words. Moze you should change your user name, jk. But seriously if they don't want cus words to be used, its not hard to find alternate words.
hahaha didn't melissa get an infraction? Hilarious the assistant to the owner of the site got an infraction from the mods
OH SNAP!
Poop on those who use yucky words. We don't need that dang ole cussin' anyhow.
i never swear or yell.
guess i missed the thread, i got an infraction too:lol: my bad.
eh over rated. ppl slip on words and then we get a PM. Mods should worry more about other things then language
other things like?
Whats the big deal I have not seen any kids trolling the site...O well looks like tha man is here watching us all. Watch out for black helicopters
i believe its a public forum, and people cuss in public. are you gonna ban them from sitting out front of a resturant or something? not arguing just debating one of the many things were free to do in this country
Me personally. I think this is one of the best forums I have ever been on. The trolls get weeded out really quickly, and everyone has always been so close. I just didn't see the need in the langauge "clause" of the rules. Thats why there are filters, to filter out the bad words. I know that one night on the live chat it got out of handed, but that situation, is different then one saying the S word, or B word, out of the blue. I guess just trying to change the way someone talks on the forum is going a little over board I guess. Other then the one situation on live chat, this site has always maintained its somewhat squeaky clean image. Can't control everything.
I think the idea is to try and keep it a clean site that's not flooded with foul language. Yes, it is a free country and you can use profanity when/where ever you want. Would it kill you to use an alternate word instead? I see it both ways and understand the high standard that this site was based on is what the mods are trying to keep.:twocents:
Any time you think its a free country to cuss, swear or say anything you want, try it in a church or a court room. Do it in public in front of children. Try cussing a lot in public in Texas, if someone complains you'll be in court faster than you can shake the dew off your lilly. There are public decency laws. I don't want a fowl mouthed person speaking like that around any of my children or around my mother. My children may hear it every day in school but they don't hear it at home if I have anything to do with it. A lot of children read these posts over their parents shoulders, wives/significant others do to. I like seeing people that can communicate well without having to lower themselves to swearing, it shows respect and an intelligence level that I believe we will be proud to have outsiders recognize when they visit our site.
i agree with both david and greg, think other than the rogue warriors that need to go, most people on here like each other and are trustworthy, but if children are lookin 'over shoulder' then maybe filter would be good if someone does slip
I don't use the best language when I speak because of habit..then again I also consider my audience. Typing a lot of cuss words is not a habit it's a decision. We really don't need it and sure doesn't exude intellegence.
your mouth slips, not your fingers......lol
yeah fingers is intentional, less your keyboard is covered in vaseline and your really unlucky... lol
And if your keyboard is covered in Vaseline, you're probably on a site other than LS1truck...
i agree with what you guys are saying now. but i say leave the filter. and for those that slip, or just do it from habit typing or speaking then it will be blocked and show that we dont approve of it, but that were not gonna turn are nose's up at them for the way they speak. and that all forms of people into trucks are welcome here.
when i come home from a hard day of work i like to get on here and relax, and if i so happen to say the S word, or the B word... and i dont think ive said the F word on here.. then i aint gotta worry about nothing.
sometimes there jsut isnt another word to describe what your trying to say. so then comes out th **** like pace****ters lol
Here's what happens:
We take our current approach, which we'll call "Approach A". It's a fair approach, but no matter how fair, there will be an extremely small percentage of the members that disagrees with the approach.
We could take a number of alternate approaches, but we will have the same exact outcome. Some of the members that don't like "Approach A" will be perfectly fine with "Approach B". But then there will come a new small percentile that posts up because they don't like "Approach B". So we try "Approach C" - same thing happens.
Right now, the moderators and admins get a steady influx of PM's, suggestions in the chat box, suggestions posted here, about what we "should do" or what would be "better".
The following is a fact: NO ONE here types faster than they think. Your truck might be fast but there isn't some "mod" you can do to your fingers so you can enter words faster than your brain is thinking them (if you DO, please PM me...I want in on that). So as you're typing, and you get as far as "fu" or "sh"...your brain is going to say: "Nope, can't use that word" before you even finish typing, or at the very least before you submit your comment. If you get stumped and can't thing of a synonym, PM me - I have a pretty good grasp on English and can give you some suggestions. If you happen to swear in the chat box or elsewhere on the site, you'll get an "infraction" (OOOOOOOOOHHHHHH)...calm down. All that is is a PM saying, hey you cussed, this is a friendly reminder not to use that language here. Maybe you slip again. So what, you get another (oh crap) infraction. Whooptie do. Just another reminder. If you get three infractions, it's a 3-day ban since we can't reach through the computer and shake you and say "what the crap?!? - STOP SWEARING!!"
There could be worse things you guys. We're doing this to keep the site family friendly. Any logical person can wrap their brain around that.
Some of the above was written in an attempt to get a couple of laughs. But in all seriousness guys, it is what it is, the approach will work with your help, and refraining from using obscenities while on the site will result in a pleasant environment for everyone.
Vote for Pedro
i did kurt, at least i think i posted a pic of myself, less my pic is what your talkin about
Moze I found that enough Soco and a lil everclear gives me the ability to type faster then I think... There you go I let you "in on that". Usually when those are mixed I dont have time to be on the net anyway though. haha.
Jk. I dont mind it though. But why not the filters and the warnings? yall see a post with someone going off and all you get is *'s you tell them to chill it out. no biggie. and you dont have the word.... or is that the last part of approach A?
I think we'd rather just have members be self-regulating and curb their own speech.
And as I said, you would be happy if we implemented the ****, someone else would wonder why that's even allowed though. Some members also unfortunately like to test the limits and type words with double meanings as a lame effort at humor (ie: another word for cat...). The moderators don't want to spend time scrutinizing everything, so hopefully by SEEING an obscenity typed, they'll make the adjustment themselves.
Then put a smiley face after it! lol
 it was funny
I respect how y'all care so much for this site. And I too want to see it grow, and be revered as a top site. But I believe the percentage that you speak of is a lot higher than you think. Not that we all want a cussing contest, or a loose enough environment as to were our family cant get on the website and see porn, cussing, and the such. But I was never offended when people said **** or @%#$!!! . However, now that the filter is off, the real insulting words can be seen. I hope the filter gets turned back on. I can control my typing, and so can most of the members. But censorship should always take the place of control.
Thanks to the mods for all they do. :thumb:
