I use a small air powered reciprocating saw and a rotary file. I'm going to try and stuff a set of 5 1/4" components if I have enough room by the 3rd door. Those 5x7's will sound much better than the 4x6 plates. I'm on my 3rd set of Kappa's and just blew out the drivers side again. :(
to be honest what we do where i work is instead of mounting them behind the plastic we make some plates to hold them in place and mount them in those trash cans and cover them with grill cloth for a factory finish and it not only fits better it will give u a little more mid bass because it acts as an encloser.
got another problem.....when I screw in the speakers, it grounds out the whole system! What did i do wrong? Is there a ground problem? I am running a factory head unit with no amps. everything works until the speaker touches metal. Help!!!----nevermind. speaker had power on the basket...shorted speaker!!
Sounds like your speaker wires are touching the metal. Check to make sure wires arnt hitting anything.
Great news! I hope mine fit the same way.
Found a shorted speaker. Sending 'em back for replacement. Took a little trimming to get them in, but the 1 that did work sounded great! Guess i'll wait a few more days for the new ones to come in and finish up. Now I want to put an amp in, but too much headache with a stock HU. Maybe.....
I wouldn't waste my time with rear speakers. You could just spend that money towards a nice small amp for the front speakers and it would sound soooo much better
man, ditch that stock head unit and get you an Eclipse or a Kenwood(I prefer Eclipse). you will be surprised at how much better they sound just by doing that. Then, if you aren't satisfied, throw you a 4 channel in it.
Probably a little late for ya, but for future posters...
It didn't take me long to ditch the rear speakers, even in the two RCSB's I owned. Each time I've run 5 1/4 component sets in the doors and 6-6 1/2 components in the front kick panels. You'd be surprised how clean and loud you can get that setup tuned to. I currently have 4 8"s in a downfire box too. She pounds and sounds clean as could be.
