i watched this vid, then at the end...is putting a carb in really the answer? i honestly cant see that being good for a performance set up, i mean isnt fuel injection so much better?

that makes no sense to me :slice:
it says because of problems with the FI system he did that. FI is way better than a carb for many reasons. half of which i don't even know, but what i do know is it cant be all that because he still has no posi :hyper2:
yeah...i just honestly think figuring out the FI problems would be worth it....
i cant believe he used a l31 when he could have had a 6.0. for the $$ i bet he could have done much more to a 6.0
sounds like a dumbass
carb's are not all that bad guys, however that eddy carb is a POS (mind you thats my .02, i hate and always will hate eddy carbs). You can get some pretty tricked out holley's (or holley based) carbs and a good carb tuner can tune them just as well as an EFI setup or damn close.
However, in that guys case... i dont know, but you know what. It is different, and i wont knock him for that! How many gen1 SBC's do you see in 2000+ trucks LOL one of a kind!
sounds nice
A gen I/II sbc would drop right in place of the 4.3 V6 so thats probly why, but he should of went with GEN III.
Well thats all very nice....not my style at all...and honestly I think its pretty stupid to put an outdated genI SBC in there when you could do a genIII 5.3 or 6.0 and make more power for the same price. Thats just me tho.
think hes a member here his names mykk. if i remember correctly he works at an engine shop and someone dropped the block and they never heard from them again. so his boss said he could have it if he wanted it so he doesn't have that much into it
dude that bas ass. I love sbc.
Bad ass, sounds killer.
He did a great job on the swap.
He had a V6 before the L31.
to me thats a waste. its different but i love the power you get from todays motors. a 4.8 would even make more HP then that 355 of his. dyno that sucker and i bet it doesnt make any kind of numbers. I never once seen a true budget 350 or 355 lay down numbers that are impressive. take a stock ls1 and cam as he did and it will devistate that 355 all day long with being much smaller cubes!!!
carbs are for salads and lawnmowers, not mention that truck is not 100% illegal
not hating on him or his motor just in general i kinda of hate those sbc since they make poop for power for what money. I will say he did research to make things work and that has to exceed any neg comment he receives.
I did a 355 a few years back that put 420hp to the rear wheels and ran 12.85 in a 3900lb firebird through the factory 2.25" exhaust system. It was a simple build, flat tops, mildly worked vortecs and a pretty tame Comp cam topped with a 750cfm holley.
But imho its no where near the GenIII engines and i wouldnt waste my time even thinking about a genI engine these days.
yea its very easy to get good power out of a sbc for cheap.
It doesn't sound right! its wired hearing that sbc instead of a ls
Thats A Nice Truck,as Long As It Runs.i Wouldve Gone Demon Carb
Not In Texas;)
Nope, not there :)
It is most illegal to put an older engine in a newer body in TX.
Is it legal to put a newer motor in an older vehicle? Carbed to?
Legal to put a newer engine in an older vehicle as long as all the emissions crap goes with it. No, we can't win without cheating.
IMO it didnt sound like it ran very good.
thats pretty cool. and for all the sbc haters im sure it was A LOT cheaper then an lsx swap. whoever calls it a waist or says carbs are for lawnmowers needs to open there mind up and realize there are more ways then one to make power.
+1. A SBC can be built cheap. I would probably almost always go LS if I could but if not I'd old old school....just not on a newer truck unless it was track only.
they all have a place, good old small black with a carb is definitely the king of budget performance if your starting from scratch. i think i would go big block though if your gonna be throwing in the towel for fuel mileage anyways.
Good point. I have never owned an SBC but I flushed a few BBC's thrugh my Chevelle for half my life (until it was sold).
my friend micah had a 86 chevy mud racer with a 355 dynoed at 435 with a cam and a demon 4 barrel. open headers too he lives down the road and i could hear him crank up in the mornins
i mean dont get me wrong, they produce tons of power but with all that time effort and money he put into that build, just seemed like he was cuttin corners at the end...just my opinion
Anyone see the new Gen1 Motown, I think, block that accepts LSx heads? Finally a way to make a Gen1 engine as good as a LSx engine. :thumb:
Here ya go MOTOWN LS Cast Iron Small Block/LS Chevrolet Engine Blocks
Now this is sweet. I wish i still had my ss monte. But probly so high priced you could get a complete GEN III crate engine by the time you buy the block, heads, intake and what ever elseyou need. Still cool tho.
